Hello Guys,

Due to an adjustment in my Red budget I have had to abandon my Arri plans and look into a budget priced Matte Box. Can you guys guide me and recommend the affordable hottness???

Thanks in advance,
Prio

A lot of people have been happy with their RedRock matte box. Hard to beat at it's price.

I've got the Red Rock,it's no Arri, but fantastic value for money and it does it's job well.
Great if you're an owner operator and you look after your kit,but I don't think it would last very long in a harsh commercial environment.

Yes, same as above.
The RedRock is a fantastic deal for the money.
And Brian Valente from Redrock said in another thread that "at this point we are looking to clear all backorders in the next 2 weeks".
So maybe it won't even be such a long wait...

Next week we'll announce info on the new, more affordable Arri mattebox.

He said more affordable. What "affordable" means is in the eye of the beholder. I'm very interested in the new Arri MB as well and even more interested in the new Arri FF.

looks like its nice for the fixed lens Sony handycams but I'd have serious concerns on the Red that it would let me down...

FF arm clearance for larger lens, 1 x ff knob, 15mm light weight rods, single 5/8" base plate mounts,
clamp-on only (no swingaway), 2 stage filter only, no grad 5x5 or 5.6x5.6, blah blah....

Nice for the Sony EX1's etc but I doubt very much this setup is similiar to MB28 destined for Red...or I hope not!

Yeah, this video OF THE PROTOTYPES got out there before I could get ours of the FINISHED PRODUCTION MODELS done. There are a bunch more features and I think many of you will be interested.

The FF looks more interesting to me than the MB (for RED). Will it be available separately or kit only? If so, what would be the price?

Something tells me that every RED owner with the Nikon mount is going to want that follow focus. Mattebox looks promising. I'm anxiously awaiting the videos of the finalized versions. Not sure why people are bummed about it being a side-load design, makes sense given several of the cameras it's intended to work with. On many matteboxes, like the RedRock, I have the AC rotate the trays sideways to load filters anyway. Often the camera is mounted high and it's not always convenient or possible to look down onto it. And it's one more safety measure to keep people from pushing the filter tray too far and letting a filter crash to the ground, since many can't seem to learn to put their hand under the filter stage while top-loading a tray or don't bother to lock it into place before letting go.
