  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If 1080P is really "good enough"... then there is no reason for RED.

We started this business because we believed that 1080P was NOT good enough a film alternative/replacement.

Film has much more resolution than 1080P (almost 4 times).

If the industry really believes that 1080P (or 2K) is good enough... please let us know so we can shut down and go on a forever vacation...

Good enough is not for leaders, it's for followers.
 
In my honest opinion - it`s good enough for me, we always downrezzed our Red One footage to 1080 so far, cinema is soo "far" away from our markets (commercials, promos etc.) - but that`s just my personal preference.

Next I suppose you'll say interlaced isn't good either... Oh... It's not? Crap... Nobody tells me anything...
 
Jim, I believe you mean spatial resolution instead.

I believe we need higher spatial resolution more than anything else. The higher you can go, the better and 2K spatial resolution is not enough and we need more ! Afterall image dimension really doesnt mean much without spatial resolution.

My answer : not enough !

Jim,

No worries. 1080P is nice as a home delivery spec......for now,
but your desire to do film justice and replace it with something
that has more resolution AND more dynamic range is genius/historic
and a dream come true.

Keep up the fantastic mind shattering work. We love it!

One comment that keeps coming up when showing people hi-rez photos was that they looked 3D and lifelike.

I want my motion images to have that same effect.

In my opinion it goes like this 5K>4K>3D>2K(HD)

When I saw that it was the MX sensor that had the 13.5 stops of DR and that
we didn't have to wait for Monstro to deliver this DR,
I went to heaven........I have returned so that I can buy a S35 Scarlet etc. etc.

Oops! I believe RED will take us beyond "Film" in the coming years... hence we tagged along!
