  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GL Optics Test: Re-housed Contax Set

I have a related question about these lenses - given the greater weight, is it necessary or desirable to swithc over to a Titanium mount or will the aluminum mount work just fine?

Thanks for opinions.

My question is can he rehouse the Supers: ie the Contax 35 1.4, 50 1.4, and 85 1.4. His main "standard prime" set consists of the 35 2.8 and 85 2.8 (both superb lenses, but sometimes the extra speed and look of the supers is very handy).

I have been emailing with Nan and he included these rehoused super speeds on the list he provided me.

I have all the superspeeds. 28 f2 35 1.4 50 1.4 85 1.4 100 f2. he quoted me at 3600 for all 5 lenses.

No prob, that price doesnt include, shipping both ways or paying the customs fees and such. I estimate close to 500 in extra costs or so.

Thanks Domenic.

Are there any other companies that rehouse contax lenses like this?

I should note that my correspondence was about purchasing the re-housed lenses as I do not have my own for him to modify. So, the prices varied lens by lens.

Here is my quote...

The price as following(including the Lens price and cost rehouse to EF mount):
18mm/F4: 1750 USD
25mm/F2.8: 1450 USD
28mm/F2.8: 1200 USD
35mm/F1.4: 2850 USD
35mm/F2.8: 1200 USD
50mm/F1.4: 1250 USD
85mm/F1.4: 1600 USD
85mm/F2.8: 1350 USD
100mm/F2.0: 2150 USD
135mm/F2.8: 1100 USD
180mm/F2.8: 1450 USD
200mm/F3.5: 1250 USD
300mm/F4.0: 1500 USD

If you offer me the Lenses, the cost rehouse is 800 USD/lens.
This price don't include the fee delivery.
I need 6-8 weeks to finish the rehouse work from the date of Lenses arrive.
Best regards,
Nan

These lenses look very appealing...

Are the focus scale markings accurate on all lenses?

I have a question about the Leica R rehouse.

Will that hat be a PL mount? I'd be interested in getting a set done as well. Probably many of the same lenses as Perry is doing.

19,24,35,50, 80

nice work!

David, Patrick's lenses are CONTAX fyi...not Leica R...

Though I'm sure NAN could probably do both!

Yea the focus marks are accurate.

I'm pretty sure I've seen another thread on here where Nan was doing a Leica r rehouse. He sets world records in answering emails quickly so I'm sure a quick email would get you all the info straight from the source.

how does the focus ring feel, is it nice and dampened/smooth?

Nan is finishing right now the Sigma 18-35 300 degree lenses for the group buy and will then focus on some new lenses.

Send me (or Nan directly) a mail if your interested in the Leica R or Contax lenses. Unfortunately, the Leica will not be as cheap as the Contax lenses, given the huge price difference of the base lenses.
