  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GL Optics Sigma 18-35 Rehoused - Group Buy

Guess you r right Avi. If anything it would be easier and more precise.

It's the same... It's a still camera lens rehoused... all the focus internals are the same.. don't over think it ;)

I don't get it. I thought Nan's rehousing were kind of different from just enlarging the barrel. Were's the point of having 300 degrees of rotation without precision? Kind of nonsense, isn't it?

So - a thought - any chance Nan might offer similarly discounted pricing on a rehoused Tokina 11-16 if we bought at same time as the Sigma?

Just spoke with Nan...

If you buy a Tokina 11-16 mk2 at the same time with a Sigma 18-35, you get the Tokina for 3200USD.

Met Nan at the Tilta booth yesterday at IBC. GL optics has no affiliation with Tilta, just sharing a booth.

Nan and his team are great. Very helpful and absolutely in love with lenses!

Here's a photo of Nan and me with the Sigma T1.8 18-35 120° and the 18-35 300° prototype.

Here's a major update on the group buy:

The lens comes with an interchangeable mount system.

No additional costs. You can decide within one week if you want additional mounts (PL/Canon/Nikon). Every additional mount costs in the group buy 300USD, with a regular price of 350USD.

But there's a downside. Every mount has to be matched to the lens. So if you want to later get an extra mount, you would have to send the lens to GL optics.

The deadline for the group buy is postponed for one week. We're now at 24 ordered lenses.

The 120 degree version lenses will ship late September to October, followed by the 300 degree version.

Interchangeable mounts is beyond cool. Thanks for the updates David.

Thanks for all your work David! This just keeps getting cooler. Man, are we really only two lenses away from the next tier on the discounts? Regardless, I'd still happily pay full price for this glass, I think it's going to be an incredible combination with the MōVi.

Great news, David!

If I own a retail version of the 18-35 in EF, can I mail it to Nan and still be a part of the group buy?

No, because the Chinese customs are a pain in the ***: it takes weeks to get items through them and it's quite expensive. Maybe after the group buy, when Nan has a little bit more time, but I don't think it's worth it. Rather sell your lens when your new one arrives. That should be cheaper.

Thanks David. Thinking about it.
Have a couple of questions. Yesterday I used a Zeiss CP 50 macro and incredibly it showed image shifting. I can imagine slight image shift can be seen on some regular lemon copies of the Sigma 18-35. But I'm expecting this will be taken care 100% on Nan's rehoused copies. Have you talked specifically about that?
What is the weight of the longer focus throw version?
Thanks

David, what does the extended version look like anyway? Are there any pictures out?
