GL Optics Sigma 18-35 Rehoused - Group Buy

Just one question.. PayPal to Nan?

Yes, all money transactions will go to Nan from GL optics. He'll send you an invoice on paypal both for the deposit (if you choose to place one) and for the final price.

What was the final price on the group buy?

I am ok with the down payment, but I am waiting to receive the lens from BandH to test and send back, just to double check myself that the optics are solid and worth the re-house.

Don't worry, deadline is September 15th, so you have enough time.

The final price depends on the amount of ordered lenses, when the deadline is over. You wont get an invoice before that (unless you choose to make a deposit):

For 0-25 Lenses, the price is 3200 USD for lens + 80 USD for the cost delivery = 3280 USD.
For 25-50 units, I can offer 3000 USD for Lens + 80 USD cost delivery.
For more than 50 units, the price will be 2800 USD + 80 USD cost delivery.

Sigma 35mm f1.4 vs Leica 35mm f2 on EOShd

Ok it's not a very technical test, but the results are quite amazing. Not to say that the Leica is worse than the Sigma... Leica has a certain look that we all love. But Sigma for sure seems to be in the same league as Nikon, Canon, Zeiss and maybe even Leica.

Sigma 18-35 GL

we have this lens now in stock if anybody wants to check it out.

NOW..seems no one has any objection China made product. I was one of the earlier buyer of 11-16 and put a review as good as US rehoused one. People were not happy and even nasty PMs too.
I love GL product and will continue using it.

I swore off Sigma after a Bad Experience, but I presume this guy isn't rehousing any dogs.

At that price, I'm in, for a PL mount of course - if it's not too late to get in?

Thanks

Mike

EDIT one request: I am the court jester of darkness :) - I work a lot in the night, and I've become fond of the semi-luminous yellow green paint used on MPs etc. Any chance you could persuade him to do the engravings in that colour? At least as an option?

As I said many times as well in various Forums Mike, I am also one of those that let go of Sigma long time ago, way too much Inconsistency in their lenses across the entire range, Quality Control has always been their biggest problem...

HOWEVER... I would not be so quick to discard this new lenses as they truly seem to be a testament of a remarkable change for the better in Sigma glass... And they surely do give a nice slap to both Canon and Nikon and their high priced glass in comparison, but they also need to make sure that the quality control is even across their new line of lenses, or they will fall right back were they have been for all this years on the far third wheel behind Canon and Nikon, were people only bought Sigma because they could not afford Canon or Nikon...

Always in time to make things better, and let's hope this is it.

Ketch, I've said many times that ultra-wide zooms consist of the Nikon 14-24mm, plus garbage.

But I can't resist the T1.8, and if he's putting PL mounts on them I'm assuming he's checking them out before he converts them, and making sure you get a good copy, not a Sigma Dog :-)

And I can't justify the budget for a Ruby at this time; heck I've just had to replace my Nikon 14-24; I wore the last one out through abuse on volcanoes!

Mike

Hello ALL, I did a quick test with this lens here in LA as David said a couple posts back... Once again here is the video from that test:

Though I am a dog sometimes Ketch, it seems that @ least my GL Optics beta copy is not ;)

Feel free to ask any questions public or private... also if you wanna talk shop about the lens and my experience with it, on the phone or on Skype about anything I'm completely open to it... Lastly, this PLd sigma lens sits on my very desk as I type this and if you find yourself in LA and wanting to play with it, feel 100% free drop me a line, my office is in DTLA and parking is about $6 bucks, we can slap it on my epic or your whatever...

Anything I can do to help, I believe this glass will smoothly cut in with my set of superspeeds and think it will be a big asset to anyone without a PL solution in that range of focal length...

We will take 4 please. 2 canon mount and 2 PL mount. Love this.

There's the option of a non-refundable deposit of 700USD. Since Nan can't be sure if some orders get canceled, and his funds are limited (well who doesn't have this problem), he can't really start working on making many lenses before September 16th, when he sends out the invoices. So the option is that you make a non-refundable down payment and get in return one of the first delivered lenses. The main invoice would still be issued on September 16th and would take into account the final number of orders.

I will take one (PL mount) please

Bob G. just post this on other thread;
G.L.Optics Sigma 18-35 f1.8 PL lens conversion, rehoused Leica R and Tokina 11-16 v2 lenses

Thanks Kwan. I meant to post it here. Ha ha.

Curious... is Nan actually changing the amount of focus rotation? The video suggests he does, but I thought he the 120 degrees was the same as the original lens.
