  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GL Optics Sigma 18-35 Rehoused - Group Buy

Canon mount really makes no sense. The lens comes with the Canon mount already
Maybe a removable Canon/PL option....

Very True, but what if we want the Cine-Mods but still want to keep the original canon mount, regardless if the electronics are disabled.

Perhaps this could be a cheaper mod in itself now that the mount doesn't need to be swapped ?

@David - When Nan has a moment can we get a quick clip of him racking focus at 18 and 35mm and also pulling the zoom range.

Also, any update on where he's at with the 24-70mm rehousing would be usefully and maybe another group buy opportunity.

Thanks.

I have the unmodded 18-35 sigma in canon mount, used it on its first paid job today. This thing is a stunner. Agree it might be nice o see how the rehouse affects breathing, tracking, etc. I know Tom at Allstar is also working on his version.

Thanks Dan :)

i talked to Nan I don't think he has plans for an EF version, but I'm trying to talk him into it!

How was the breathing and distortion on the standard version Dan? As good as a prime? Or a happy compromise considering its a zoom?

Hehe yep you informed me via email - happy about this! Plus it focuses Canon direction! GL Optics ...more like Genius Optics ;)

Forwarded all your questions which you posted here or sent me by pm to Nan from GL optics:

1) How big is the focus pull (in degrees)?
2) What's the real T stop of the lens? Could you mark the T-stops on the lens instead the f-stops?
3) Which image circle is covered (at 18mm and at 35mm). Will they cover the 5k Mysterium-X sensor or even the 6k Dragon sensor?
4) If we order ~20 lenses, how fast could you ship them?
5) Will the lens keep focus when zooming?
6) How is the breathing?
7) Could you do some test videos incl. focus pulls and zooms?
8) Other than PL and Canon mount, would also be a Nikon mount possible? Are the PL and Canon mount user replaceable?

Will post the answers here as soon as I get a reply.

HI all
i purchased from MR NAN 5 months ago,a zoom and a lense.they were very good and shipped as soon as he received the funds
looking forward to buy from him again.

Just bought this lens- (non-rehoused). WOW.

Just bought this lens- (non-rehoused). WOW.

I just bought the only one Samy's had in stock in LA.
Covers Epic MX 5k with no vignetting- barely a hint of light drop-off from center to corner. Sharp in the corners as well.
I won't be surprised if it coves Dragon 6k.
Holds focus perfectly thought the zoom range.
Little to no breathing when pulling focus.
Far less (as in no visible) green/magenta shift when focusing, compared to some other lenses.

This lens is fantastic.
