  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GearNex geared head UPDATE

Cheers! You guys did a great job. My Gearnex arrived Wednesday; I popped the wheels on and can't pass by without taking it for a spin.
This is one of those tools that are simply "elegant" - it does what it is supposed to do perfectly, operating it just feels "right", and its beautifully machined. I don't want to put it away (even with the solid case).
Maybe its a bit of overkill for the camera, but it is so cool...

Denis,

That is exactly what we are shooting for, thank you so much for the post. We are working everyday on the GearNex accessories to take it to that next level. Thanks again for believing in us.

Joseph, Damn good meeting you and great Product you got there. Ok i am now ready for mounting my iPhone on top of the GearNex. Cause I know my steadicam cant handle it (ok just kidding about that, but not about the iPhone on a GearNex).

Great meeting you too. The GearNex for the iPhone :-)

Hey Joe -

How about an update?

Thanks

Hey Joe. Any news on delivery?

Hi Steve,

Please contact Silverado about your pre-buyer packaged you had been offered, we have been waiting on that.

Thank you

I received my GearNex and used it on a shoot for the first time last weekend. I have to say I was really impressed with the improvements they've made since I saw the prototype at NAB. The build quality is solid and professional. It's very smooth, but not as silky-smooth as my Mitchell gearhead; but hey, there's a huge difference in cost. Why did I buy a GearNex when I have a Mitchell? Because the Mitchell weighs about 50,000 pounds it likes to live in my studio. Because I can carry the GearNex with one hand, it likes to go out on location. Because it's new there is a break-in period and should become silky smooth the more I use it. It's already smoother now than first out of the box. I first intended to not get its' custom case, but now I'm glad I did. The only real issues I have is that the 150 mm ball adapter doesn't mesh well with my 150 mm OConnor hi-hat or sticks. I had a nice phone conversation with Bret Allen of GearNex and he said they used Sachtler and Ronford mounts as reference when they were designing the ball adapters. Apparently one size doesn't fit all. The 100 mm ball adapter meshes well with OConnor 100 mm mounts, but the other issue I have is with the lock-down. The flat-dish shaped lock-down that GearNex provides works fine for locking down the Mitchell mount. But when you use it to try to lock-down the ball adapters, it tries to straighten itself out and won't hold to the angle that you're trying to level it to. I feel there should be separate curved-dish shaped lock-downs that conform to the curved shape of the mount. I find GearNex to be very responsive to my feedback. Bret said he will be coming to my studio soon to see what can be done about the ball mount. All in all it's a great product and I'm very impressed!

Sold my GEARNEX, but for all the right reasons. My needs and cameras changed.
So it has gone to a new home where I'm sure it will be well used with a full blown RED on top. But I miss it already (and have an order in should a baby brother ever be built).
Beyond being a great gear head it also proved to be a good investment, and I was pleased to be a part of the adventure watching as the design improved.
I'm not set up for renting gear, if I were there was a line ready to use it - pretty much everyone I know who saw it.
It is the rare piece of gear that hits the sweet spot of engineering, ease of use, and something that is almost sculpture. I had it set up in my office for a couple weeks and couldn't pass without spinning the wheels.
I'm pleased it will be put to good use, but I miss it. Cool gear doesn't come along often.

Hi Joe:

Where's my G-Nex? :)

Hi Michael,

I was under the impression from Torrey at Silverado that you had a deal with them for the special that we offered pre-order owners. I will email you direct to discuss.

Thanks,

Delivery when?

Delivery when?

Does anyone know who could I contact for info on my delivery date? I ordered on 4-22 during the pre-order and never received anything after the November 5th announcement that they were contacting pre-order customers regarding the shipping of units. I've had no response to emails or pm dating back to December 3rd. I've tried the Gernex contact form, JoeM@CineToys email, and Reduser pm so far. Who's supposed to be handling the pre-order units now that Gearnex isn't doing sales directly?
