Gauging interest in BRIGHT TANGERINE FOLLOW FOCUS

Rome, Bright Tangerine are breaking new ground in the accessory world. For the first time, a manufacturer is offering their products, of a similar nature, in a multi-tiered platform.

For the first time? Really? No other manufacturer in the cinema industry has ever offered several different price/size/tiered levels for their products before? Perhaps a little over enthusiastic there.

The Atom has a different 'gear box' that is more suited for still lenses too. All this being said, if you like larger hand wheels, you want a different gear box ratio, or many other aspects, you can get these things as accessories to the Atom.

What is the gear box ratio for the Atom vs. the Revolver?

I already have an Arri LFF-1 and an FF4. (Guess I like Jim's work) So it's a bit difficult to justify a full studio setup. I need a smaller profile setup however for day to day stuff which is quick release. So the Atom works for me. However, I still need a gear ratio more suited to cine because I have found that lengthening the throw, even for stills glass often results in more than one revolution. Heck that even happens with my LFF-1. So probably would get the cine arm. But this gear box thing is another issue. Do not want to start with a gear box for still glass. Can you confirm the ratio's for the Atom vs the revolver using a cine arm on both?

Lastly, any idea when the group buy discount rate will be announced?

Thanks.

+1 (thanks.... you saved me some ipad typing)

I never want to lengthen the throw on the lenses I use... Up close on UPs I often use a LCS to shorten.

Clayton,

Lol! I think Curt was just trying to say this will be a great piece of gear to add to the collection...not defending his overzealousness, but I am a BIG believer in the VIV MB from them...it literally saved my a$$ when I was trying to rig it from 19mm to 15mm for the Ronin, and it worked like a charm.

To clear up any confusion:

  • Revolvr is a double-sided unit, and Revolvr Atom is a single-sided unit.
  • Both swing arms ("cine" and "1:1") fit both products (Revolvr and Revolvr Atom). To figure out what would suit you best, check out: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...E-FOLLOW-FOCUS-INTEREST&p=1415493#post1415493
  • Neither product will work without a swing arm. Gotta have at least one.
  • Both "large" and "small" handwheels fit both products. Why large and small? Because some people like one and some like the other. The large wheel has around 72mm diameter at the big end, the small wheel around 57mm.
  • Revolvr Atom cannot be converted into Revolvr, and Revolvr can't be converted into Revolvr Atom.
  • Revolvr Atom has integrated reverse "Nikon" direction (flip the gearbox upside-down, no extra parts required), while Revolvr needs an additional reversing gear to reverse direction. This among other things is why a double-sided unit isn't necessarily "better" than a single-sided one. It all depends on what you're doing.
  • Revolvr Atom has an additional slide on the bridge to allow the transmission box to be tweaked fore-and-aft.
  • Revolvr and Revolvr Atom use different bridges. With Revolvr, all bridges are snap-on. With Revolvr Atom, the LWS Bridge is snap-on, the studio adapter bridges are not.

If you have any other questions, you can contact Rob (rob -at- brighttangerine.com) or Carthik (carthik -at- brighttangerine.com)

(Bright Tangerine has indeed already contacted Reduser regarding sponsorship)

Cheers

Jim

Jim,

Thanks for breaking it down! I don't understand all of it, yet, but you've given me some stuff to research and compare before making the purchase. Still want to see the final pricing though, but again, I can't wait.

Man... I didn't think I'd find a follow focus that I might like more than my O-Focus. I guess it makes sense since they are both designed by Jim Elias! I use Nikon lenses, so the reversible feature of the Atom sounds pretty awesome... but I don't know if I want to spend the money on a new setup and then try to sell my O-Focus. I also have dual-sided operation on my O-Focus right now, which I would lose on the Atom.

I'm a little confused on the original post -- Are the prices listed the group buy prices or the retail prices? Depending on the savings, I might be tempted to pull the trigger... But I'm afraid it could open the floodgate to more Bright Tangerine stuff (when I've been perfectly happy with my current O'Connor stuff... haha)

Hi Josh,

Prices listed are full retail. Discount tier pricing to be posted here in a bit!

Thank you very much

Fury

I don't see the Atom info on their webpage anymore. Does anybody else?
