Fos Sale Panavision cookes 6 lens Set

i did buy a set of 6 speed panchros last fall for 4800 usd.
rehousing to PL costs around 1800 USD per Lens.

So whoever buys it.. this is a treasure.
You will love these lenses

The glas makes one of the most beautyful images.
they have that something special...it really didnt interested me how they do on testcharts...they do sweet on skin

.---note: some motherf## did steal the lenses two months later.

Wow i wish i could get a decent re-house on a lens for that much, century charge about 7K USD per lens. Don't even like to think what the pana housings would have cost.!!,,

By the way these lenses were owned by a very famous American DOP who used themon lots of well known movies!!..when i bought them he instantly regretted it and tried to buy them back.:calm:

hey if they were PL i would go for it...i have no ims mount.

definitly...someone with panamount should go for it.
if i ever find this little a## who stole my lenses.
--these lenses would never be an investment moneywise for me. it would be an artistic decision.

They ARE PL MOUNT....not panamount...

Hi Kaya,

Do you have the name of the shop that did the re-housing of your Cooke's for $1,800 each? In addition to three of the Century Re-housed Cooke's (32mm, 50mm, 75mm), I have a full set in the original mounts that I would like a few, if not all re-housed. And Sorry to here your set got stolen... that blows.

Thanks,
Todd

p.s.: I got my 50mm from Bob H. the other day (thanks, Bob!) Waiting to bring it down to Duclose with my other two to throw them up on the projector... Mechanically that lens is really smooth!... By they way, Bob, do you know how many Century Re-house's were done for the Cooke's? A few dozen? A hundred? Any idea, how many of these sets are floating around...

Glad your happy with the lens todd, there are a few floating around, not sure how many were re-housed though. I did call a lens tech today to discuss the cookes and he said there are a few re-housings that they won't touch when it comes to servicing, so be careful. He did mention europe as well!!.that's a;; i am saying on that subject:clown2:

Yeah... I'm sure it might be a, "you get what you pay for", type of thing with the re-housing. Too bad Century doesn't do them anymore.

Okay... Good luck with the sale!

I have seen reports that the 18 and 25mm non-panavised cooke speed panchros vignette on the RED. do your 18 or 25 vignette wide open?

Hi,

Very likely as a set of panavised cooke speed pancros (18 & 25) will porthole on a P+S Pro 35 adapter. That is the reason a set was sold about 4 years ago for about $7600 on Ebay

on a pro35 it will Vignette, the frame size on pro35 is big not far off a stills size gate, thats why most people use supers or cookes on them, in my experience anyway. i have never tried them, but that's my hunch.

Stephen 4 years ago i saw full set of MKII supers selling for 5K on ebay and look how that has changed. Glass has gone nuts.

Hi Tonaci, How are you? Well I hope. Thats news to me and am interested as to where that info came from. Watching this thread carefully.
Tonycovell@talktalk.net

Well first off you can clearly see the vignetting going on in the test clips that richard darge uploaded early in this thread.

Visual products advertises the Speed Panchro set on their website as lenses for "2k" coverage likely due to the vignetting issue on the 18mm and 25mm. With the 18mm and 25mm vignetting..it would be a serious issue in my opinion as I can't imagine renting a set out to clients and having to tell them... oh by the way..when you shoot the 18mm and 25mm, don't forget to switch to 2k!

link below has a comment "All but the same night shots were shot on an old set of Cooke Speed Panchros. The 18mm was vignetting like a real over-done post FX."[/I]

http://www.twenty398.com/2008/12/finishing-while-waiting-part-1-the-challenge/

from reduser gunleik who used the 18mm speed panchro "Mostly a really beaten up set of old cooke speed panchros, breathing like an older smoker and the 18mm vignetting like the end is near,"
http://reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=258169&postcount=4

to clarify, I have never used these lenses, but just going on reports posted.
Would love to here anyone else who has experience with these panavised ones since it could very well be that 18mm and 25mm don't suffer from vignetting wide open.

LOL....yes thats why panavision spent thousands re-housing this set, because they breath like an old smoker and vignette, and people make crappy films on them....

That's why DOP's spend small fortunes on them, century and van diemen re-housed them at a cost of thousands, because they are sub standard cooke optics...hilarious.

Tonaci i suppose your offer on the lenses doesn't stand anymore? Srange you should make an offer on such a set of lenses?

just to clarify, none of the comments i posted earlier were made with the intention to imply that cooke panchros are sub-standard. It was a direct response to Tony Covell's question regarding where I saw the info.

my question isn't whether these cookes are any good, it is simply..do the 18mm and 25mm vignette wide open when used on RED?
