  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For the Love of God please implement

LOL ok thread title bit dramatic.

I was underwater last tuesday..

1) as obvious I am underwater I have no way to do really much of anything with regard to swapping cards and that kind of nonsense.
2) I am underwater long duration I had a 256gb card had I had 512gb card I am sure I would have filled that card too.
3) End of Dive I had humpback whales fly over... It was EPIC.. Should have been captured by the EPIC!!! sadly I was at 0% and no way to record
4) End of dive means doing deco stops so I am unable to do anything but sit and wait for the nitrogen to bubble out of my body safely so I dont get bent.

Those are points I want to make to make my request valid or at least have some validity.

Can I please get a feature to where I can have a special record button assigned that will let me say screw data continuity and start recording over the first videos I recorded or something? Just start deleting crap and let me record as I would have sacrificed all my footage for those whales... I know there is alot of damage that can be done but if somebody uses this who has no business using it and deletes their magnificent shot... I say darwin award.. However it would LET me get that magnificent shot I want! Purely selfish reasons I know right?

Also being able to do some zoom frame stuff underwater would be great too while recording.. After all I focus on a target at 20ft and it say 16 inches! Having a magnified view to be able to use for focus like I did with my DSLR would be great. I used magic lantern and it let me do a magnify window on 1/4 of screen.

Other than that I really love using this camera underwater :)

Why not use the prerecord function?

I had a similar situation in India recently. My SSD got filled because I accidentally left the camera rolling and it filled the card.
I missed some shots because I had no way to delete the junk shot that had filled the drive.

Well the reality is I cannot reset a shot either its once or never... I am sure I will curse this problem many times to come.

August 7th last year I saw hammerheads zooming by bottom to surface.. for 75 mins... HOW FOR CHOSE WHAT BEST FOOTAGE?!?!?

A sound request. Perhaps using a multi keystroke to engage the overwrite.

Or maybe a way to pre-designate some percentage of the card as protected...like 20% (user determined)...and then you would have to use a special key combination to enable record on that section? That way you would always have some space available...just thinking out loud...

how about going the "REAR SSD MODULE + 2nd SSD"-route? Too expensive? I suppose that's a solution that should work just fine…

There needs to be something thats for sure.

Greg, if you weren't worried about the other footage, format the card via redmote.

When I saw I wanted to trash my other footage for whales, it was too late my friend. Its not like I am going to trash good footage just on the chance I might see whales.

I wonder if that would fit? Is it possible to use multiple recording media? That would give me a terabyte if I did 2 512 modules. Or 750gb if I did 512+256 that I currently have.

Note: Wont Fit I just looked.

The ability to delete from camera, even as a special deliberately chosen mode, has been requested several times before and sadly shot down by the narrative film making users.

I hope maybe this time it could happen!

Red should definitely implement a feature whereby the user can manually access recorded clips and delete them individually. I understand this may be useless underwater but to me this would be a most welcome feature.

I think the idea of designating a card as write protected is a good one.

I can access any menu underwater... So yes this would be more than enough for me DOOO EEEET RED!!!

It would be USEFUL underwater and render anything I said moot. However since this has been shot down before thats why I suggested something different.

I would have been going through deleting stuff with sharks swirling around me prepping to record more LOL.. I didn't even mention the sharks I missed nor the eagle rays.. It was a INTENSE day.. and by total lunacy standards that was mild so I got to figure out a better way to do this.

Wont fit because of your underwater-housing or won't fit in general due to other reasons? Basically it should work as far as I understand it - at least with newer upcoming firmwares (not sure about the current release build)?

I really don't see what the problem is with having a delete button.

It's a pretty common thing to have and we're used to it. My understanding is that there were philosophical or 'safety' reasons behind this, but perhaps there's something more practical in the way data is written to the disk that would make it a pain to program? Otherwise, I'd really like to be able to delete a clip if I wanna delete a clip, even if it takes a double or triple check or whatever.

It probably would have been harder to implement with Red One and spinning discs with fragmentation issues, but SSD shouldn't care where the released space is.

Also, it was understandable where it was desired that it was impossible to accidentally delete a clip by user error. But there are plenty of equally valid scenarios where deletion would be a very useful feature, like in this thread.

Just imagine if you had to format your computer to delete files LOL. And my thought on the matter of safety is just a joke. If somebody cant be responsible for their footage they have no business even owning a point and shoot. After all the everyday customer has these options to delete individual files and or video from their basic camera. If they can handle it surely we can? Just sayin...
