  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOOLCONTROL for Iphone @ IBC

Just purchased and loaded on iPhone 6. It did not want to connect to the Redlink Bridge in adhoc mode initially but I think that is because the phone kept switching automatically back to a wireless connection with internet. Once I got it connected it is amazing and the range is good.
 
Thanks William. Yup might be worrh turning off celular when using ad hoc network to avoid having th phone switching back to 3G.... Easiest way is to turn airplane mode on then re-activate wifi only...

Nope.

During the excitement of IBC I took a stiff drink and tripled my initial order of PCBs, etc. - so - every single order made up until today is in the first batch. And MIGHT be able to actually eliminate any shipping down time between batch 1 and 2 suspect - worst case 10 day gap - and by late-November we should have inventory to ship same day - unless there's a ton of orders in the next few weeks :)

Every HOTLINK order made so far should be out the door this month - MOST of them within the next two weeks - and looking good to get all HOTBOX orders made up to today out this month as well - we made a few further improvements with the guts of the HOTBOX - it's a pretty sick piece of kit. I do suspect that as our shipping starts and units hit the streets imminently - we will see a spike in sales too -

Sounds perfect.

Can't wait to get this app connected. I have a camera here with no way to control setting until my 7" touchscreen ships. All my other gear is out on rental until the end of the month...
 
Good news Mark ;-)

Curran, you will need a way to set serial port to RED CONTROL PROTOCOL via touch screen or side handle before you can use hotlink and foolcontrol... But maybe we can a make a force preset for that...

I see. Well if it isn't too much trouble...
At least my touchscreen and side handle are on a feature shooting locally so I can always stop by the set and borrow my gear for a few seconds.

FOOLCONTROL purchased and ready to go. Can't wait to get the Hotlink. I ordered within the first few minutes that it went live so pending any hiccups with customs, I should be rocking this setup pretty quick once the first batch lands.

Just hook up your epic to a tv via HDMI and use reds force menu presets, unless you have no side handle or redmote
 
Hey all, learning more about the redlink bridge - by itself, it will not allow control of the canon lenses focus etc., correct? It needs either RED's THC controller or Offhollywood's Hotlink+Foolcontrol? Can anyone explain this bit in more detail?

Not correct. It will accept commands from Fool Control OSX or iOS as well as the REDlink iOS app.
 
With the REDLink Bridge alone you can control canon lenses directly with :
- foolcontrol via wifi antenna (iOS / OS X)
- RED's free iPad / android app via wifi antenna
- RED's THC via RF antenna

OFFHollywood's HOTLink does the same as the REDlink bridge except it only works with apps (using wifi) but not with the THC as it does not have any radio receiver... but it lets you use REDvolt XL battery module or VL locks attached on the back of the camera.

Hey Nikhil -

Offhollywood's HOTLINK is WIFI only hardware that connects to CTRL port of the camera and uses rs232 to pass RCP commands to the camera.

RED's Redlink Bridge is WIFI AND RF radio for THC control. It attaches to the back of the camera and uses the pogo pins to communicate with the camera via UART. So ... no cables ... but it has to be attached on the back of the camera.

With the Offhollywood HOTLINK you can not use the current version of the THC Controller - which is RF only - but you can mount the HOTLINK anywhere on the camera.
 
Just installed Foolcontrol on my iPhone 5 with latest iOS. It crashes every time I try and open it. Anyone else having this problem?

Jake I just fixed this one, and submitted a fix to Apple... sending you a PM now as there is a small way to fix it before the update is out. It is a "rare" bug that slipped thru the beta testing...


EDIT : get in touch by PM or by email if you encounter the crashing bug upon launch.
Jake + another user who helped identify the bug earlier today were able to launch the app once they changed a small setting in their device...
It is a very simple workaround until the 1.1 update is available in the app store. Sorry for this !
