Hi Guys,

this is probably a very quick one to answer, I'm new to red like many people on here interested in the Raven. Im looking for the most basic kit so i can add more to it later. I see you can control the camera via wifi with fool control and use an ipad mini etc rather than buying a red touchscreen to start off with - will this display the image in real time or is the lag going to be unusable?

Secondly I have a Ronin and saw these rather nice accessories -

and this bit i don't understand - do i still need a jetpack or base io module to power the camera with this setup? I see the brain comes with AC power so I'm assuming I can just use the ronin accessories and ronin batteries to power the camera and buy either the base or jetpack modules later on?

sorry if any of this sounds stupid, I don't quite understand all these options yet.

thanks

Marc

Hi Marc and welcome

No image is transmitted via wifi from camera... Only camera control is possible including histogram, playback thumbnails, menus and buttons but no live view.

A module is require to power the camera as the brain itself has no dc in.... I think the cheapest option available today and ilso ideal for ronin use is the jetpack module.

Hey Marc,

Welcome to the forum. That seems like it will totally work, however you DO need some sort of expander to plug the lemo into. The Brain DOES come with the AC power cord, BUT there is no Port built into the camera. Hope that helps. If looking to save a little money I would imagine there will be a lot of redvolt modules, and maybe even some base I/O expanders coming up for sale on THIS forum as soon as cameras have been out for a little bit. There are already some people posting in the for sale section.

I thought it was too easy, so its probably best to get either the base io or jetpack package then, if clearance on the ronin isn't an issue (i have extended arms and pan) would you go for the jetpack or base io pack?

also are you sure about the fool control seems like direct feedback of image on their videos

personally I would go with the base I/O. SDI is pretty nice to have onboard

Mikael is one of the creators of fool control pretty sure he knows everything about everything hah

the video preview shown in the vimeo link of the OS X version of the app is via thunderbolt BM mini recorder and HD-SDI cable from camera. that is not available on iOS version tho...

and btw foolcontrol is made by a single fool... there is noone else beyond me :-)

Thanks Mikael, looks like you done a hell of a job on foolcontrol! One more thing that comes to mind - is there a focal reducer people are planning to use to reduce the crop factor? I have a blackmagic pocket also and find it very useful

And he is no fool, and for a one man band offers amazing support. Can't say enough good things about Mikael, answers all questions quickly, and has created an amazing product.

I just put a pre order in on the brain only, hopefully the time its my turn in the queue there will be many unwanted accessories for sale I can pick up, it also gives me a little more time to decide on the best setup while I wait, I'm sure its going to be a long wait!

I think most users are saying that speedbooster it isn't possible because the mount is fixed on making the flange distance too far from the sensor. Not sure though...

Just a heads up on the cable here.http://store.dji.com/product/ronin-m...aign=Affiliate I ordered my minimal package as flying on UAV will be my primary use. Got the JetPack Expander. Our local RED Rep came by and I showed him the power cables we had pre-purchased, much like the one in the link provided. BUT....these are right angle Lemo connectors and you'll (we'll) likely need a straight connector. Aeriapixels.com will have those in a few days.
