  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Focus....

What we are doing with AF is a long process with a ton of opportunities to add possibilities. Plan on it working when the cameras are shipped. Then plan on it getting better with more options as time passes.

Jim

awesome...

can't wait for them to be here...! :D

So your plan is to basically deliver rock solid cameras, and then add the (even more) exotic features along the way?

Sounds good to me :biggrin5:

What was the bug? Even if it's meaty technical, It'd still be very interesting...

This is far and away the single most complicated camera every built... nothing else close. A bug is something that is causing an issue and is difficult to find. We found it. That's all I'm going to say.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that pretty soon just about anybody will be able to buy a Scarlet fixed and shoot family movies. I'm trying to imagine a youtube filled with slomo goals by 10 year olds which actually are mostly in focus without blown skies. A few of them may even know about things like Magic Bullet Quick Looks.

How's the r3d support in iMovie '11?

Just one question. Does the RedFocus software Jarred has mooted have any connection with the AF/Touch focus options we're talking about here?

I admire the man who thoughtfully considers his legacy.

The future is bright with surprises of all sizes.

And I didn't steal that from a fortune cookie, either. Don't care for them myself. One day I realized they are kind of like styrofoam. That coupled with the lack of any danger whatsoever of a bad fortune seems to render them pretty useless.

It never ceases to crack me up. The boss of the company that's leading the next revolution in imaging technology (and the next one, and ...) on the message board, shootin' the breeze with the customers. NEVER happen anywhere else.

Not true: Emagics Logic developers G. Lengeling and C. Adam both came into forums and chat many times with their customers before they were bought by apple and I know many more situations like this.....

Aren't you just a bucket of icy cold water. Any of the ones you mentioned online with their customers everyday and have 5400 posts?

2 questions:

Fans and dust, how is protection for the inner workings in the cam, on lets's say a rainy day or a nice day in the hot and windy desert?

Fan noise, compared to R1?

Just curious here.

The fan is in a sealed tunnel that runs from lower front to out the top. You can pour water down the top and not screw up the electronics. You might have to change the fan though... but that is easy to do. Unscrew 4 screws on the front fan cover and replace the fan (cost is minimal).

We are working on the heat management now. You should expect similar numbers as a RED ONE (which is quite good now). The only exception might be high frame rates for an extended period of time in wicked hot weather. Then you will need to use secondary cooling options.

Remember that this package is like no other. 5K at 120fps in a box the size of a Hasselblad. It is a mini-Nuke in a cigarette box.

Thanks!!!

Excellent!

Is the fan-change a self-serviceable part?

Given your lenses, you may want to consider the Scarlet S35. They will better match what you have. You can use them on a Scarlet 2/3" but you have to take the magnification factor into consideration. With these lenses you will not have wide angle coverage.

Absolutely. 4 screws, un-plug the fan, plug in the new one and put the cover back on. Easy enough for me to do without asking Jarred for help. :-)

Hmm... I'm thinking a liquid-cooling option might be of interest to some users.

Hey Jim, do you have specs yet on max framerates for 2k windowed recording? Sounds like we're approaching Phantom levels

OK. Then I probably can have a go at it... without asking Jarred for help... -:)

Thanks again!
