  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Focus....

I somehow have a feeling RED had managed to pull some super f@&ing cool pattern recognition thing and now you tap on what you want to stay on focus and it gets tracked...
Jarred I think it is time for a tennis or ping-pong test shoot where the camera keeps the ball always in focus. :w00t:

This is pretty incredible stuff... it's still sinking in. I hope you guys can feel some of the excitement.. we are not done yet but man does it kick ass how far we have come in the last little while.

Some? I guess we are all having a heartbeat of 100 fps!
keep 'em coming... we can take it ;)

about that focus system... will we be able to preprogram focus points and/or shot settings which can be automatically transitioned over a chosen time? (for the situations where we do have to be focus puller and everything else at the same time)

This is in no way intended to be a negative comment, it's just my reality right now.... but man, I really hope I'm still around to see these things come to market... to get to buy and use one.

There's two things in this life that I eagerly await.... a cure for cancer and the Epic/Scarlet release.

Kris- had no idea. I'll be praying, wishing and hoping you get your wish! Keep your attitude positive!

Cough.

This is trailblazing..

Everyone. Embrace auto focus. It's going to be very important going forward for both the stills and cinema program.

C'mon!

Where are the full res frame grabs and high res footage?!

Those have come to a very small degree from RED over all, and I guess we won't see many of them untill they're very close to:

"Done - let's grab that cigar and nice peaty whisky Graeme"

Those grabs will be scrutinized and tripple tested, and IF there are any faults in them due to "undoneness", they'll only contribute to myths that'll bite them in the ass three years down.

Arri isn't releasing much stuff like that into the wild either yet, allthough Alexa is out.........ish...

Sadly... You're right.

Please enjoy your life as it is right now. Anything can happen and the future is now. I hope you live with no regrets with peace, strength, and courage. I hope and wish that your situation can and will change. Good fortune to you and Thank You.

not a preprogrammed ramp.. the lens was not focused on anything but pointed at a box, i put my hand in front of the lens ( closer than close focus ) momentarily then removed my hand while half pressing the AF button.

So, it went right past the desired focus point of 1.7m to 2.25m, and then went back, correct?

dont worry.... that will come :)

I'm waiting.

This is funny, but also telling of the future when filmmakers will take so many of the things we are excited about for granted.

One of the hottest camera comparisons going around. ;)

How about it guys?

We'll leave the Allstar A-mount to those guys. We have done what we did for good reason.

Wow. This is really amazing. This is definitely gonna change the game. Again. And I would've been perfectly happy with just manual focus. Man, talk about over-delivering.

for now.. they are going forward. Too many people called the "1-800-I-Hate-Backwards-ports" number. :)

Haha OMG that is actually the one thing that bothers me about the Red One. So many times, I've wanted to prop the camera up on its backside, but couldn't for fear of bending the cables or pressing a button my accident. Sticking extra-long rails on it gets around it, but sometimes they're not available.

Fantastic! If at all possible, could you program the lower cost prime lenses as well? I'm thinking specifically the 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 primes. They're not L-series, but they sure do offer good bang for the buck.

Yeah, I love the 50/1.8! Super-light and sharp, perfect length for portraiture on an S35 size sensor, and you can pay for it in nickels. The 17-55/2.8 is great too; as someone else pointed out, sharp as an L, and also pretty cheap.
