  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Flying Epic in the woods...

I want one of these...

Jim

Cool. I mean the dragon must eventually learn to fly someday :)

But seriously, you and Intuitive Aerial should definitely meet up! I think they are flying to USA soon and I'm sure they would be happy to show it to you :)

I think you video has made it possible to justify one of these bad boys with the network I deal with. Thanks!!!

Any limitations you can see, is there a lot of setup time need with it? How long could you shoot with it?

Not really any limitations. I know that they are improving the thing all the time along with the flight time. At one time it was in the air for three really long takes just going again and again. I'll ask them how long the max time is. There was one time the chopper was high in the tree tops (and I'm talking trees that pokes God in the ass) and the pilot just let it fall down and when it was like 3 meters above ground, he powered the motors like crazy and the actor that was beneath the chopper almost fell to the ground because of the wind burst. We did that one more time and then it was a battery change. Fully understandable... :)

About the setup time: Just place the Epic on the gimbal and you´re all set.

At what price point are they going to sell this Octocoper for?

I don't know. Check out their webpage at intuitiveaerial(dot)com. I think they are offering their services for now with a pilot and (if you wish) someone who controls the camera. Although that was very easy :)

A few things,
We got a droid Hexa XL. Flying one of those things is not as easy as it looks...

You should do a couple of 100 hours in the simulator first and then crash a couple of rigs and then maybe start with a cheap 5D or such strapped on. Flying like these guys did in the forest with such high speed and with an epic attached takes mad skills. Im not saying this because I know how it works, it's actually the opposite. I though I did... you know the drill, I saw one on youtube, found the retailer added biggest possible ready to fly with extra everything to basket, credit card number, waited a couple of weeks, got it to the office, looked great like a huge army chest with toys... offcourse I crashed it hard the very first day. Then bought new parts, got a super experienced pilot, he flied it a couple of times, then the moderboard got corrupted, sent it to germany, got it back quite a few euros later... So I learned, flying kopters on any decent level is kind of like big wave surfing or acrobatics on dirt bikes, it looks really cool on youtube, but it take quite some time and effort before you nail that double back flip with your 450cc or ride the biggest waves on the north shore with grace, the same goes for flying epics in the forest :)

Those are some amazing aerial shots, and a great location as well.

And well said Bjorn.

Yeah, I agree... The pilot they have is a superhero when it comes to flying that thing. Well said :)

I really like the music. It came from where?
A production?
Composer?
Stock audio?
What is it?

What are you using to power the camera? Don't see a sidehandle or any V/AB batteries. Lightest solution?

The lightest way to fly the epic is to use a lima cable to a small lipo, but you would jeopardize your warranty.
Jim I will be picking up our scarlet in the next few days and could bring a copter to demo fly over your shop? we could get some red office footage from the air:yesnod:

another octo we recently built. When it comes to flying getting one up into a hover is not too hard, forward flight, changing orientations, following cars, flying through obsticales is a whole other story!

At one time when the camera was up a 100 feet in the air, I was thinking, if the thing comes crashing down right now, the camera would probably make it since it will land on grass.

It's such a beast.

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.

Or... We'll come down at the same time and have a battle of the choppers at RED HQ to see who will get the love?
