  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Flying Epic in the woods...

WOW. Those aerial shots look SICK!!! Are you adjusting focus remotely? With the Redmote? Or shooting at like f22? Thx!

Thank you :)
I thing I used f8 fir those shots. We haven't used the last shot in the film. Therefor it's not graded as the others. Did not pull focus remotely. I used the Tokina 11-16 and there's not much pulling to do with that lens :)

But I can say that the Redmote was a great tool that day. It was partly cloudy so I had to check the meters on the Redmote and adjust the fstop accordingly. Also just to be able to do a rec/stop with it saved a lot of Redmag space ;)

Any other 4k (or 5k...) camera capable of doing this?

Nah, there were some questions about getting the Alexa up there. But the weight of the entire package (including the chopper) exceeds some legal limit of what you are allowed to move in the air or something. But I also don't understand why anybody would use anything other than Epic - air or ground shooting. 5K and so solid in that tiny body. At one time when the camera was up a 100 feet in the air, I was thinking, if the thing comes crashing down right now, the camera would probably make it since it will land on grass.

It's such a beast.

thanks for that.

I want one of these...

Also they've got the best camera gimbal for multicopters, called zenmuse z15. Just testing it as we speak, simply amazing. Unfortunately it's for Sony nex and Panasonic GH2 only, as it has to be factory precalibrated down to microns.. Hopefully we get something like this for Epic some day... Servo driven gimbals just aren't fast enough
for perfect stabilization.

Would Red make one?

Check out http://www.dji-innovations.com they seem to have the best flight controller

Yeah, but these guys at Intuitive Aerial has made the chopper just for the Epic. And well, it just works...
I've seen so many reels with choppers that lifts GH2's or 5D's. But they haven't shown Epic footage. I'm sure that they exist but this badass chopper just flew away with the Epic like it was nothing and we could easily had put a heavier lens on it if we had wanted. Also... smooth, so, so smooth :)

It just... works.
