  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Flowcine Gravity One

We actually received our Gravity One last week and we had a rushed hour to play with it and realized we needed a few parts. Soooo on Christmas Eve while the house was asleep....... I spent a few hours and put the rig together. It works really well. A real ah ha moment. Couple of thoughts.
You will need a solution to hard fix you monitor . A long swat rail running horizontally along the front of my top plate seemed like the answer but it was not. I needed the real estate on top of the camera to mount the gravity one dove tail plate. .......
Pick a lens , stick on your AKS/ Battery and Follow some some easy directions to get a good idea about center of balance.
Our first go at it it seemed almost impossible to balance. After thinking about it we added some ballast to the bottom ( 18" rods and base plate ) and offset the small dove tail on the outer bow to lower CG. Once this was done it was an AH HA moment for sure....
Couple of thoughts for you guys. Take the time to really find center of camera. Once with only a few items to figure it out. It all makes sense but if you only have x & y axis figured out but your y ( up and down)is off the camera just flops over. By adding more weight I could also lesson the pendulum effect....
The rig has two small set screws that keep the bows locked. Constantine is it ok to lock the set screws and carry around. Rig when camera us attached.
Happy Holidays
Hello Frank.

thanks for your feedback.

Looking at your set up on the pictures and referring to this.
First of all you have the monitor mounted way too high. What you should do, is mount in easily with a noga arm and so its positioned somewhere on the left side of your lens and about 50 mm more or less away from your lens or closer if that doesn't mess up with your operating.

This way you are lowering the CG and you have a much more balanced rig.

Basicaly the idea is to place all the accessories you use, including battery , lens, mate box , motors, whatever you use, and then balance the G1.

On your set up I see no battery, no lens, maybe you just put those pictures for reference , but I just comment on this to make sure .

, you can perfectly balance X,Y, and Z axis , if you follow the manual procedure. after the first time is very very easy .

I can do this only with a bare Epic and 18-50 lens, with no battery, no monitor, no nothing.

we can have a Skype video call if you like, and that is for anyone else that wants to get a better idea, and I can assist you on balancing or placing components around your camera , and Iam sure once you get to know this well, its a piece of cake, in fact, I can balance any configuration in less than a few minutes..

So lets do this if you like, pm me and I will be there to help out.

You can carry the rig around locked, with the camera , just make sure you don't make dynamic moves, and gently carry it around .

Let me know when you can Skype and I can assist you for the best set up.

Peter will be making a video very soon , and then you can see much better things that aren't very clear figuring out on the manual.

thanks again for your feedback.

happy holidays

Hey Costantine .Thanks for feedback. I think it all works really well. Didn't want to make it sound like it was super
Difficult to do but as someone who's never balanced a rig watching another seasoned AC struggle for a few minutes I just thought I'd throw that out in case anyone struggled a bit. I think a video will be very helpful. As for the pics. I put a vmount on the back of pictured rig and a 50-150 RPZ on the rig and its very stable. I flipped ( lowered) monitor on bracket and it's better thank you . Noga arms move... I don't always use them.
But Thanks again Constantine the rig is great . Look forward to the next phase of adding gyros/ motors
Best Frank

I'm still waiting for my delivery, I know it's been Christmas but I'm not impressed with DHL and the tracking hasn't been updated . It was shipped from Stockholm on the 20th then shipped from Goteborg on the 27th. God knows where it is now?

Hi Nick! We are very sorry for the waiting for the DHL shipment :( They usually take 3-5 days for UK shipments, but over Christmas something has delayed everything :/ We are trying to investigate what is keeping them, and try to resolve it as soon as possible. It seems to be affecting all rigs going out the 20th. Apparently Fedex have had the same kind of problems, because items has been stuck in the other direction as well. I hope everything will be delivered asap now once all the holidays are over! Again sorry for the delay! I hope everyone had a a great Christmas and new year! 2014 will be a very interesting year :)

hey Doug , thanks for your interest.

we have currently 2 Gravity one owners in LA, but they both Arri Alexa users, not that it matters,

Anyway I will ask them but they look they are busy shooting at current time.

We are also waiting to close a deal with a major USA distributor , but this could take some time..

So I will try my best and let you know

thanks

What gyro systems exist out there? Anything besides Kenyon?
I found this and am making further inquiries about it: http://www.gyroscope.com/d.asp?product=GYROSTABILIZER
I feel that even a light gyro is important to keep momentum induced swing or sway out without a motor system installed.

Also Constantine where do I find the manual? I seem to have missed it.

Hello guys , due to the fact that many users are exited and proceed to set up their cameras with out reading the manual, and since balancing is a 3-4 minute job once you get to understand the system and how it works,

and its also the most important rule for the system to work well,

Peter has made a small balancing process video loading an F55 on the system. More videos with other cameras will follow but since the process is what matters here it is.

Please follow that procedure and you ll get there in balance very fast . After the first time it will be a case of a couple of minutes with out effort.

Nice write up, Eric. I'd love to take it for a spin if you have a free afternoon. Radiant's website isn't updated with a rental price yet, but it's good to know they have one!

I was at Abelcine this week in LA and their 'guy' had not heard of the G1, but I encouraged them to look into it since they seem to be really hot and bothered for brushless gimbals at the moment.

At one point we were moving at about 40-50 on the lakebed trying to keep up with the horse. As soon as we were on an even plain the G-1 held up beautifully with the 4x4 gyro on the bottom.
