Hello Frank. We actually received our Gravity One last week and we had a rushed hour to play with it and realized we needed a few parts. Soooo on Christmas Eve while the house was asleep....... I spent a few hours and put the rig together. It works really well. A real ah ha moment. Couple of thoughts.
You will need a solution to hard fix you monitor . A long swat rail running horizontally along the front of my top plate seemed like the answer but it was not. I needed the real estate on top of the camera to mount the gravity one dove tail plate. .......
Pick a lens , stick on your AKS/ Battery and Follow some some easy directions to get a good idea about center of balance.
Our first go at it it seemed almost impossible to balance. After thinking about it we added some ballast to the bottom ( 18" rods and base plate ) and offset the small dove tail on the outer bow to lower CG. Once this was done it was an AH HA moment for sure....
Couple of thoughts for you guys. Take the time to really find center of camera. Once with only a few items to figure it out. It all makes sense but if you only have x & y axis figured out but your y ( up and down)is off the camera just flops over. By adding more weight I could also lesson the pendulum effect....
The rig has two small set screws that keep the bows locked. Constantine is it ok to lock the set screws and carry around. Rig when camera us attached.
Happy Holidays
thanks for your feedback.
Looking at your set up on the pictures and referring to this.
First of all you have the monitor mounted way too high. What you should do, is mount in easily with a noga arm and so its positioned somewhere on the left side of your lens and about 50 mm more or less away from your lens or closer if that doesn't mess up with your operating.
This way you are lowering the CG and you have a much more balanced rig.
Basicaly the idea is to place all the accessories you use, including battery , lens, mate box , motors, whatever you use, and then balance the G1.
On your set up I see no battery, no lens, maybe you just put those pictures for reference , but I just comment on this to make sure .
, you can perfectly balance X,Y, and Z axis , if you follow the manual procedure. after the first time is very very easy .
I can do this only with a bare Epic and 18-50 lens, with no battery, no monitor, no nothing.
we can have a Skype video call if you like, and that is for anyone else that wants to get a better idea, and I can assist you on balancing or placing components around your camera , and Iam sure once you get to know this well, its a piece of cake, in fact, I can balance any configuration in less than a few minutes..
So lets do this if you like, pm me and I will be there to help out.
You can carry the rig around locked, with the camera , just make sure you don't make dynamic moves, and gently carry it around .
Let me know when you can Skype and I can assist you for the best set up.
Peter will be making a video very soon , and then you can see much better things that aren't very clear figuring out on the manual.
thanks again for your feedback.
happy holidays
