  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware upgrade 4.0 - What do you think or wish might be in it for Scarlet

I think it's a long shot, but would love to see

-5k ws or 4.5k. It seems to land more with their ideology of over sample to get to 4k...then we all go shoot super speeds and soften the image cause we want it more organic...so we gotta knock it down to resolving 3k in a 4k container... Lol

- anamorphic mode. Very useful as b cam work with epic... Not sure why it hasn't been an option yet. You can always crop it though. And if some notices 3 or four shots as being spherical amidst a majority of anamorphic shots.... Well didn't do a well enough job of making a good film or music video that makes you care for the content and not just the visual.

- would love to see then hinted at 4k HDRx. Though I've only used it once and can't say having to go to 3k hurt my feelings a bit.

Point being. This camera is like a arri IIc. It will be able to shoot cinematic images for the next 20 30 years. Hell maybe longer. I need to shoot more and write more like I did when I was younger...

i don't understand why batteries have to drain completely when the camera is off....

I want uncompressed IMAX resolution, at least 20+ stops of lattitude, at phantom speed on the next build. AT LEAST.

Apparently proper power management is going to be implemented in the latest firmware

hi ben!!
how do you know?!?! ;)
how "proper" will be?
scarlet draws about 60w during rec and not much less during standby now...do you have actual watts of fw4?

There's a quote early in this thread from our glorious leader who said ti is coming in the december firmware.

There was a wish back in the pre-b16 Red One firmware to be able to import a "50% jpg overlay" to match the actual shot the camera is filming.
I'm not planning on using it anytime soon, but I could have twice in the past year.

Do you think it can be done ? on either Scarlet or Epic ?
