  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware upgrade 4.0 - What do you think or wish might be in it for Scarlet

I'd really like a integrated focus/zoom rack focus(i.e. no breathing) via my side handle with a "CANON EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Zoom Lens" - would allow me a ton of flexibility. OR if the joystick was both focus y-direction and zoom x-direction ... i probably could manually do the rack focus (if the zoom speed was modifiable).

I would like some simple things, like:
Being able to map audio level controls to knobs on the side handle.
Creating 'key' presets in redcine and being able to import them.
Being able to selectively lock out buttons and with a lock on/off button that was quickly accesible.

Can you elaborate on what you would like to see for these two:

Being able to map audio level controls to knobs on the side handle.
The audio level controls are fairly intricate - I'm not sure how to simply map those to key actions - any example use cases from you would be great.

Being able to selectively lock out buttons and with a lock on/off button that was quickly accesible.
Do you mean something similar to the current side handle key lock but with more fine grained control?

Not my post, but the ability to map a key to toggle between the two audio inputs and (for example) the rocker to be +1 or -1 db increments would be a lifesaver..

yeah +1 here, although tapping the touch to adjust audio is cool, i would love something a little more precise.

I'm not discounting the request, but you already have precise controls. You can use the wheel in the audio dialogs to change the gain by +1 / -1 db or touch on the digital readout and type and value you want. We will continue to look at how we can make it easy to map to keys.

thanks Trent, i guess i can only speak for me personally but when i am out it is always blazing hot, raining, or freezing cold, and having them mapped to a physical rocker would be cool and i guess speedier than what i currently do, i need to look into using the wheel because that would work too.

(fan boy mode on) i do want to stress, i am not complaining or even looking for anything, because this piece of equipment is truly the best thing i have ever used (fan boy mode off)

thanks

It would be nice to have the audio level adjustment assigned to the rocker or the top knob of the side handle.

For the selective lockout, being able to have the focus magnify (which I have assigned to button C) would be nice to not have locked out. But I would want to lockout most of the other buttons.

and iris adjustment for the top wheel knob might be interesting

Better yet would be the ability to use the thumb wheel to highlight a setting (colour temp, iris, iso, etc.) and the finger wheel to change the value of the highlighted selection... Is that currently possible with user-assigments? (I hate having to enter it as a sub-menu.)

That's what the "alternate key mapping" preset that comes with the camera does.

What about mapping the focus to the wheel on the sidehandle? And making the focus "throw" adjustable...
Again, you can already do that.

It really is a good idea to look through the (long) key action list to see what is possible. Keep in mind that any action can be assigned to any key.

Do you mean "Focus Near" and "Focus Far"?

Edit:

Wow didnt know this was possible. The only issue now is can this be done without the focus stepping -- a smooth action like a focus wheel? Speed adjustment would be ideal too.

A GUI in RedCine-X to set up a key mapping and then just export it to the side handle via the SSD.... Sometimes I'd just rather sit at my desktop and figure these things out ;)

So going back this audio control thingy while we have Trent's attention...

In an ideal world I would have the 1 - 4 buttons on the top of the side handle mapped to each individual audio channel and the rocker would incrementally increase or decrease that. So to increase the gain on channel 1 by 2db I press 1, followed by the +rocker twice. All done. And quick and simple while recording or on set.

Better yet it would work as an incremental +1/-1 on any other mapped key choice you made.

Another thing I am unsure of whether it is possible to have a preset mapped to a key that would be the off speed choices with all adjustments made.

For example:

Preset 1:

Default
4khd
25fps
1/50 shutter

Preset 2:

2k off-speed
2khd
60fps
1/120 shutter

Preset 3:

Timelapse
5k
1fps
1sec shutter
HDRX

I understand there will be blackshading requirements for extreme presets but this would still save a ton of time. It may well already be possible so forgive me if I am just being dense.
