  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware 6.2.44 issues

Yes, me! And RedUser Member Jan Reichle as well, he rolled back to 6.0.44. I run 6.0.44 as well.

Maybe someone from the RED Team can let us now if they are working on a fix rolling out with the next firmware. That would be awesome!

What issues are you having? I loaded 6.2.44 up last night with a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G and it seemed fine, it pulled the focus and iris through their ranges while it was booting up and the iris was able to be controlled after the upgrade. The camera updated the side handle and Nikon mount as part of the update process, were your mounts attached to the camera during the upgrade?

This is on a Dragonised Scarlet-X.

I put in a support request for this problem in February. They said they'll be working on it. I haven't heard anything about it since then. They know so I figure they're working on it. The roll back to 6.0.44 got me back working again.

When I upgraded I lost control of the aperture. It would work for a couple of minutes, then the aperture would close. At that point the aperture display went blank. I lost aperture control on the Zeiss ZF 2s, Nikon 70 -200 and Tokina 11- 16.

It seems to depend on which lenses, some work and some don't.
 
So I will do a firmware update this weekend to check all my lenses under 6.2.44 and make a list. This is my list for 6.0.44, all except two are working fine:

Nikon AF-S 18-105 1:3.5 - 5.6G ED Ok
Nikon AF-S 35mm 1:1.8G Ok
Nikon AF 50mm 1:1.8D Ok
Nikon AF-S 85mm 1:1.8G Ok
Nikon AF-S 24-70mm 1:2.8E ED VR (new VR model, electronic Aperture) No-Iris
Nikon AF-S 70-200mm 1:2.8GII ED (VRII Lens) Ok
Sigma 18-35mm 1:1.8 Art No-Iris
Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 IF DXII Ok

I rented these two lenses a few weeks ago:
Nikon AF-S 14-24mm 1:2,8G Ok
Nikon AF-S 24-70mm 1:2,8G Ok
 
I'm curious about your results. You will definitely have to roll back though. This 6.2.44 update to the Nikon mount is broke.
 
As promised, here are my results. There is a new firmware out, 6.2.51 which I tested. I hoped there where some improvements, but ...

Nikon AF-S 35mm 1:1.8G No Iris > fast and loud clicking sound
Nikon AF 50mm 1:1.8D No Iris > slow and loud clicking sound
Nikon AF-S 85mm 1:1.8G No Iris > fast and loud clicking sound
Nikon AF-S 24-70mm 1:2.8E ED VR (new VR model, electronic Aperture) Iris Control Yes, BUT not at 2.8, 3.2, 3.5, starting at 4.0, very loud clicking sound (I think this is kinda good new, it is a full electronic aperture lens (2.8E instead of G) like all Canons, not a mechanical like the rest of the Nikon lenses. It never worked with any other RED firmware so far, so at least it seems to be possible to get these new lenses work. The new 200-500 is a E lens as well)
Nikon AF-S 70-200mm 1:2.8GII ED (VRII Lens) No Iris > slow and loud clicking sound
Sigma 18-35mm 1:1.8 Art No Iris > slow and loud clicking sound

... no luck at all. :cry:

Is there anybody from the RED team to help us? I would provide as much data and tests as I can.

Well, I did that two times already. I will reopen the last ticket an let them know about the new 6.2.51 firmware. Like High Skully said, answer is they are looking into it and there "should be a release in the near future that will increase compatibility on the NIKON end". My first ticket about this was opened November 29.
 
I have issues on my Weapon now also...BUT I find that if I reseat the sense a few times and/or boot up a couple of times it at least lets me use the iris. I have the the 28-70mm 2.8 which is not even on the list and it works. Also just used my 70-200 and it works.

Obviously there is an issue and it needs to get a new firmware update ASAP and I would hope RED is working diligently and rapidly towards that end.

I think that is the mini-mag issue that is solved, not the Nikon mount issue, or?! Maybe on the Weapon, I tried 6.2.51 today (Scarlet Dragon) and it has the same issues like 6.2.44.

Interesting that the lenses work by booting up a couple of times.

I am using the same "work around" on the AFS lenses. Also the lens doesn't sound very nice(the iris is oscillating from full open to almost fully closed), so I never just "change" a Nikon lens with power on anymore. btw my nikon mount was recently checked out by red with the weapon. (edit ... problem is with 6.2.51)
