  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

Well said, Chris.

It is really irritating that people ascribe an intent due to their own subjective perspective and filters and then claim it as fact. Please people, even if your voice seems seems like it's in the majority, it doesn't prove you are right. And you can't KNOW someone's intentions any more than you can read minds. You're making this up. To be sure, you are entitled to say what you think ,but don't pretend you are speaking truths when you do.

We just say that we care, and that fcpx is not good enough now.
I have used fcp for 10 years and am really pissed they messed up my favorite tool! Maybe some is better, but it's kinda distracts me with all the sh** that is worse! If I was a Adobe guy I'd just use Premiere and be done. Now I'm hoping Apple will make it better! And yes I have sent sevral mail to sjobs@apple.com and tons of support forms.

If Apple wanted to use the "V 1.0" argument that is being thrown about, then they should not have called it Final Cut Pro [anything], plain and simple.

They called it "Final Cut Pro X", which to me signals a transition of similar scope to the OS X transition. Which I think is fairly accurate.

Those then rushing to defend the sender regardless and advocating additional faith while having no means to affect the situation are indeed proselytizing to the slighted.

I have acknowledged that Apple has failed to communicate effectively about this release. You're accusing me "proselytizing" for, essentially, arguing that people shouldn't make things up (Apple doesn't care about pro users, etc.) in the absence of reliable information.

If it's not arguing for arguing's sake, then what is it I'm failing to see? It's not as though progress in the field of editing will halt if people move on to a product whose manufacturer communicates with them regarding their wants/needs.

Why does anyone do anything other than exchange how-to information on these forums? People are interested in these subjects and interested in discussing them.

The people who are "jumping ship" didn't suddenly decide to abandon Apple/FCP. They've already spent a year or two looking at Premiere Pro, looking at the latest Avid Media Composer, and instead of switching then, decided to wait to see how Apple upgraded Final Cut Pro 7. When Apple instead decided to kill it, instead of upgrading it, they went with their preferred backup NLE option.

Up to this point it's completely reasonable, but if you waited 1-2 years it seems silly not to hold on for just 3 months more. That is... if you have any reason to think that this initial release will be patched when Lion ships etc.

...FCPX is not automatically better because the code was written in the last 2-3 years; computers can't tell how old the code is. :)

Either I'm completely misunderstanding you, or that is totally ridiculous.

Look at this and tell me what you see: http://obamapacman.com/2011/06/fina...o/1-apple-final-cut-pro-x-10-0-splash-screen/

Does that or does that not say "Version 10.0"?

Not sure what your point is. The first release of Mac OS X also had a version number of 10.0, despite not being a technical successor to any single previous operating system. (Well, I suppose they could have labeled it 4.0 or 5.0, with the last release of NeXTSTEP having been a beta of 4.0. But it wouldn't have meant anything to most people.)

Version numbers don't have any particular technical meaning. The product marketed as "Windows 7" has an internal version number of 6.1. Sun, some years back, decided that the successor to Solaris 2.6 would be called Solaris 7. Linus Torvalds just decided the upcoming Linux kernel release will be 3.0 (after over a decade of 2.x releases), openly admitting in the announcement this was essentially arbitrary.

My point is that X means 10, just like the original poster indicated.

The X means 10 in OS X as well. I have no idea what significance you think this has that's relevant to my point that by using the 'X', Apple is communicating a transition similar to the OS X transition.

a NLE is one piece in a sophisticated workflow. the editor cuts the movie, but there are a lot of other departments involved. to be honest it would probably suck for VFX artists, sound artists, colorists etc. to do all their specialised and artistic valuable work inside fcp X and not the tools they prefer.

beside that, how the media is managed right now is weird. what do you do with
20 TB of raw footage, 20 TB of offline footage and 5 TB of VFX shots? i really dont know how that works right now.

Well, except for the part about keeping OS 9 alive for quite a long time, really, so that people with investments in that OS would have some time to make the transition. And the part about telling people what they had in mind...

So "X" is code? How cute! And how totally lame of so many of us for not figuring it out. Well, that's OK then. I guess we all got worked up for nothing. Silly us. Of course we should have known that Apple wouldn't get this a bit wrong. They are, after all, the biggest, neatest tech company in the universe. They surely didn't get there by being wrong. My apologies for doubting. I'm better now.

Geez... I can't believe that this thread is still going on, feeding on FUD and name calling. Why can't some people wait for Apple's next move before already bashing them for what they think it will be (and calling anyone not sharing their point of view a fanboi)?

Seriously...I hate that I have to wade through 96 pages of grown men whining and arguing like little girls to get one bit of useful information. If you don't like FCPx, keep it to yourself.

maybe its not only fcp x alone.
maybe its the whole road map we witnessed the last 3 years.
the last macpro update.
the last fc7 update was not really an update too.
people swallowed these dissapointments because of the hope they had for fcp x.
even if apple manages to through in the 10 biggest missing features plus a couple of media management changes and some signifant UI changes....there will stay the now risen uncertanity that apple moves to bigger markets, ergo the consumer market.
in the longrun, from apples POV fcp x is the right way. user generated content will dominate in 10 years.
right now web TV channels start to rise with unique content formats who will grow and earn hard dollars through web based commercials (not necesseraly vids) the cheap productions with good looking results for the web (in HD and even 4k) in combination with unique User generated content will bring some new billionaires to forbes list. and a whole generation of content creators and users wont need xml.
cinema will stay forever. but TV, which is a much bigger market, will die. fcpx should be their biggest fear.
just imagine a facebook for webcontent with channels and toprating lists. you earn by views.
you have one million clicks, you move up.
right now we are at the beginning with all the homemade youtube vids and fB pictures.
some will entertain. some will organise these webentertainments.

we are todays pro's needing certain tools to serve the cine and TV market.
but if TV's 80% marketshare moves to the web, who needs class A monitors or safe colors?
nobody! because nobody will define "safe colors" for the web, and even somebody does, nobody will care.
apple was smart when the music industry changed. Itunes rules all over the web re musicdistribution.
they will be first when content creation changes.
on the other side, cinema will rise again! since 3D cinema content is unique. TV tries it also with 3D but they will fail because nobody has 20 foot screens at home, and nobody wants to see it at the web. for 3D cinema, fcpx is a joke, but i supposse it was never intended for that market. we are becoming an even smaller niche market.
glad that for our market there are still the other two A`s around

Hs anyone here spent some time exploring AV Foundation? I don't mean just in FCPX, but the whole concept, implementation. Worth a study, especially if you have access. I think it gives both sides of this argument something to chew on.

It's amazing how you indirectly say that if people don't like it, they should not speak out in here. But it seems that if they like it, then it's ok to write 96 pages of "yey, FCPX rocks"?
I see a lot of negativity in here, but when someone speaks out some facts, express their dislike of the new FCPX then they risk being crucified by those who like FCPX and then nailed as the ones destroying a thread with negativity?

Most people in here who expressed their dislike about the new FCPX did it with professional criticism. Whining is in my view when people who like something that's being criticized try and counter the negative critique with false information, far fetched opinions and a rather loss of touch with reality by implying that professionals don't need certain things based on their own personal needs in post production.

As always the ones who write unnecessary posts like "FCPX rocks!" seem to get respect, but not the one writing: "FCPX took away the ability for me to use OMF, so I can't use it in post production".
The latter need then to hear that he/she isn't bright enough to wait for the update so he/she can manage an OMF workflow again... there's respect for those who will wait for the supposed update from Apple, but there's no respect for those who say they want to stop using FCP because they can't base their NLE foundation on unreliable information or an unknown future roadmap.

Sorry, but I found the lack of respect to come from the ones who praise FCPX, they can't just handle people criticizing FCP or Apple. Probably the same people who raged the Avid vs FCP war the last ten years.
There's no coincidence that the ones leaving the thread are the ones who gave critique and the ones who stay are the ones who praise it. I seem to have stayed but I wanna agree on something with the above quotes... 96 pages of, not whining, but of a lot of battles about nothing.

Some people can't use the software and we who can't use it don't care about any future update, we work now, this week, today and we need a good NLE now. Live with it and use your FCPX for your work if it is so good for you, are you afraid we are gonna kill it? Can't see how.

Actually, if you do like FCPx, could you keep that to yourself? The bigger the outrage, the more complaints and the longer the complaining goes on for the better the chance that Apple will take the backlash seriously. That will mean more time, money and resources being put into FCPX to make it better than it is today. It might even cause them to communicate better with their customer base if the iphone 4 antenna issue is any indication. If that happens it will be better for everyone. If, however, everyone defended Apple and no one complained, then there is a chance that Apple would come to the conclusion that FCPX is fine as is. The squeaky wheel might get the kick, but at least it's not ignored like the others.
