  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

I think those that need a professional program are a tiny market for Apple now. Apple is no longer a cool, small company for the creatives, it's been steering towards being a massive comsumer market for several years. I wouldn't be surprised if they're not at all interested in the reactions on forums like this one. It's sad, because Apple used to be the only company I was interested in. The world is changing, Apple's no longer cool. Okay, enough of the drama. Just emigrate to Adobe.

I hate to say it, but your probably right.

but at the end of the day, most (not all) of us pro users are still all appled up. as much as i'm anti drinking the koolaid, i love my mac towers, macbooks, etc. i'll be getting an ipad soon. their pro line is blowing hard, but can't say the consumer line is suffering at all. either way they are still getting our money. there's a lot of anticipation for the new mac towers this summer, and i'm really hoping that will still show some sign apple still cares about the pro.

a lot of our pipelines are built around macs, overhauling now to anything else would be so costly I wouldn't even know what to do with myself.

Is there any response from Apple?

If you type in FCPX or Final Cut Pro X in google you'll see the web is rapidly growing with very negative reviews and feedback, this must be a very big disaster for Apple.
As Apple has it name (image) today because of pro's started using there computers (buy a mac and you'll be just as cool as the pro's).
There road map seem to be very much for consumers only, but Google, Samsung etc. are fighting on that marked also (Andriod, etc. etc.).
This mean that there is less and less reason in the future to use mac's in productions, and switch over to PC again.

With this on the long run it means apple will loose it's name, while a part of the prosumers and consumers will look at what the pro's will do and follow.

Just the mere fact that you can't export XML, EDL, OMF, etc. is a deal breaker for me... As it certainly is for anyone with other pro editing, compositing, grading, etc., software/hardware. In my case, Smoke is my finishing sys of choice... And FCP-X ain't no Smoke ;o) Anyone remember the stats???? Something like 2 million Pro users vs. 10 mil. enthusiast, prosumer, etc... If that's the case, Apple's target market is going to be the one that can make them the most money, period. Me, as soon as Avid makes use of the Aja Kona 3, which I was told @ NAB by many inside sources that it can and that Avid just hasn't enabled it yet, probably because they want to get rid of inventory, I'm heading back to an old friend MC.

Yeah, I understand. I am looking to buy/upgrade soon and I don't know whether to go Mac or Windows. I wish Apple's new gear used NVIDIA/CUDA vs. AMD/OpenGL. I wish I had some idea what would happen with FCP X over the next 6 months. I wish it was more clear if Apple has totally given up on catering to Pros. I wish there wasn't a performance hit using Premiere on a Mac vs. PC (which may be narrowing and may not be Adobe's fault). I wish thunderbolt was available for Windows. At this point if Davinci were to announce that a PC version of Resolve I think I would go all PC.

It's good to know that using third party software is a feature. I like that feature of FCPX the best. That's why I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.5.

My 8 core mac is still the one I'll be working on for some time, though the fact that you have gazillions of video cards for pc's will make my next one a window's based computer; no way ipad, mine will be a samsung galaxy tab; oh my god, only while writing this I realize my life is seriously changing; becoming a pc guy.

Yeap a lot will change I think, we'll see a different workflow.
I hope smoke and resolve will put windows versions out too (at the same price) and we'll use linux more in the future.
It's to early to make such big choices, and we have to see what Apple is going to do in the couple of months.
But sure they have to response fast.
FCP and Logic was the reason I went for Apple, but if this is the future .. I see no reason to stay on mac.
Fortunately I took advantage of some NAB deals and make sure software I invested in could run windows also.

We kinda had see this coming only we all didn't aspect it to be so bad, or hoped Apple to turn it around in time.

This is a brand new piece of software. Version 1.0. It doesn't have everything yet. It's a glimpse of the future, lets watch it mature.

Apple should have communicated this instead of trying to market professional apps like they do iPhones and iPads. End of debate.

It looks really similar to imovie to be a complete rewrite, when adobe made the switch to 64bit, all the plugins where there almost from day one, you could open projects of earlier versions, etc.

It is difficult for me to think adobe had more resources than apple. Apple had four years for a complete rewrite, cause last update wasn't really an update.

The direction is clear, hdslr shooters aiming for the web, for that, FCPX exceeds expectations. For us, it's not even there.

When they brought Premiere back to the mac they probably started in Cocoa making the upgrade to 64 bit more seamless, If you look at Photoshop however it's still a carbon app which means it's still in 32 bit and I think they have been working behind the scenes on it for a long time now so that when the carbon version is ready they can transition to 64 bit a lot more smoothly.
Apple seems to have decided to take the opportunity to just re think Final Cut Pro all together, the interface after all is pretty much the same interface it has had since OS9 not a lot has changed has changed since then.

I wanna see how Apple PR will handle this one! I'm stoked CNN blasted these fools!

I know this is getting old but even if they left FCP with the old features and add some new fruity features that would of still been ok.

You are? They write this column called "Apple 2.0Mac news from outside the reality distortion field" with some regularity. The FCPX article was not the first.

Apple should take note of Reds approach to product development.
Don't hide your intentions until the day you ship. Let the customers be your partners and participate in the process throughout.

Yeah. That's worked out really well. No one ever complains about RED.

Wow. Yeah. They really blasted them. (yawn)

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...mixed_reactions_from_users_professionals.html
AppleInsider reported last year that Apple planned to widen Final Cut Pro's appeal to include more prosumer and advanced home users. Apple reportedly responded with a comment, reassuring users that the next version of Final Cut is would be "awesome" and pro customers would "love it."

Mounting evidence that this was intentional, and that the Apple PR machine claimed there was nothing to worry about.

Shame on Apple for both...
