  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

Final Cut X (Sorry, I am not gong to put 'Pro' in that name,) won't kill the Mac but the gamma issues might. Check out this thread http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?60261-quicktime-X-drives-me-insane!!. That could kill the Mac.

Wait a minute, I thought this was a pretty old issue with quicktime, if it hadn't killed the mac in the past why would it kill the mac now? Even if Final Cut Pro X ultimately annoys me to the point of changing to Media Composer or Premiere I'm not about to buy a PC over it, no way, no how.

Editing is a skill, not something you install on your computer. FCP is an excellent tool to practice with as you hone your editing skills. You should be able to pick up any other tool pretty easily if you know how to actually edit, so I wouldn't sweat it.

Hear! Hear! totally agree.

Ha! Thanks for checking in, Jarred :) And have a good weekend, all... Hope the RED team is getting more rest than the poor FCP X team!

Problem is, you guys are probably stressed out about deadlines, openness, satisfying customer demands, answering emails...
...and the FCP X guys are passed out after drinking magnums worth of champagne out of papier-mache flutes made from the printed out emails of the the peasants who don't understand their vision.

Maybe not. Well, the papier-mache part anyway.

BTW I am playing with the app and have (a lot of) questions of how to get basic stuff to work - but am posting them in the other thread now because this one goes by so darn fast.

Heh heh thanks Bruce. Just wish I had better news for you guys about this whole thing.

I moved on from Final Cut awhile ago but I know this is painful for a lot of you, so lets hope it gets better.. I'm sure it will. Lets hope Apple starts talking to all its users and lets everyone know what is REALLY happening... There is lots of really wrong "official" info going around out there..

I am betting next week someone important from Apple gets up on a stage somewhere and talks everyone off the cliff like they did with the whole iPhone antenna debacle.

Just out of interest Jarred, what did you move too? I'm a dedicated FCP user, but even I have started learning Avid and also looking back at Adobe Premier...

Actually, having not downloaded FCPX, can anyone confirm if the gamma issue has been solved?

Im using all Adobe... It's nice to have Photoshop, After Effects, Premier and other Adobe apps all playing nice together... specially when you are doing Stills AND Motion workflows with the same source file. The plugins from 3rd parties are great. I am really impressed with 5.5. Couldn't be happier.

I still use all APPLE hardware though.. that will never change unless they take the towers away....

That's Cool Jarred. Used to use Premier a long time ago when it was prone to crashes but heard really great things about it now. I know it intergrates with r3d files easy and running it through to AE is easy. Might have to re look at this again.

Only reason I got Avid is they did their stupid cross deal for FCP users which was a steal and just adds to the arsonal for clients.

Will be interesting to see what Apple does with the MacPro tower this summer...

Premiere Pro CS 5.x is not the same program as before, just like FCPX has not much to do with it's predecessor. Full rewrite!

But Adobe went up, Apple went the other way…

Yeah Uli, it's been a while since I used Premier so might have another look at it.

Apple can fix this situation very easily... all they have to do is communicate what they are going to do with this app. If they don't, many will jump ship. Once they do, it will be hard to get them back.

I am the ultimate Apple fan. But this app signals a big change in philosophy. It doesn't have to be that way... but somebody better say something pretty quickly.

Just FYI, after a couple rounds of email with the App Store, I got notification that my refund had been approved and the charge would be reversed in 7-10 days. They have a little heart somewhere.

Isn't that against App Store policy? What happens to your activated copy of FCP X?

I don't understand what you mean. $995 for Media Composer which is now utilizing 3rd party hardware is actually a very good deal. Avid may be lacking in a couple of areas but it also does some things amazingly well. If you've never used it, especially in a facility with multiple editors it would be hard to appreciate some of the features that make it very powerful.

Perhaps you were saying it would be stupid to pass up this deal, in which case I would agree with you. For under $2500 you could own all 3 NLEs. That's pretty cool.

Also no LUTs whatsoever... so another reason not to be used in a closely color managed environment... not professional at all... the only reason today to have 4K support is for high end feature film work... No LUT's - No High end, meaningless 4K... i-movie indeed... #big #fail

I've got a license to Avid XPress Pro & Mojo thats been sitting on my shelf, un-upgraded for the last 4 years. I believe it can still be upgraded for $550 to MC. If anyone is interested let me know. I'm going the Adobe route.

VideoGuys still has it for $995. Avid agreed to extend the deal time period while stuff is still in stock.

I took them up on it. For my second copy of Avid!

I had a coupon code already for buying it at the reduced rate at avid.com, but it doesn't work now. Just assumed the promotion is over. Good to know! Thanks!
