  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

May 6 2010, it seems the writing has been on the wall for some time....

For the record I love Apple's OS, cannot stand using Windows and have fond memories of the times when they released kick-ass hardware. Now their hardware is the same as a PC in a shiny box. I can't help feeling that some day I will wake up and if I am using apple everything will be a fisher price type interface and if I want to anything thats not on some drop-down menu or in the app-store I will have to become a software engineer and build my own system.

True, to a certain degree. But come on, I think a lot of you have been hanging around RED a bit too long. What other company can you think of that communicates like RED does? Almost none. Sony doesn't communicate their intentions. Panasonic doesn't. Arri doesn't. Adobe doesn't. Canon doesn't. Nikon doesn't. You get the picture. It's one of the things that make RED a different kind of company and you KNOW this. So, to single out Apple as any different from these other companies when it comes to communicating is silly. Could they have been more forthcoming about FCPX? Absolutely. Should they provide you with a roadmap for their products? Ask Jim how that's working out for RED which, ironically, recently took the position that they'll be less forthcoming in the future about roadmaps and such. More Apple-like, if you will.

While I'm thinking about it, how can you guys poo-poo Apple for being a phone company when the iPhone and the iPad have become super useful tools in the film and video industry? To be clear, the iPhone is a pocket-sized computer that also makes and receives phone calls. If you think any differently I'm afraid you're totally missing the point.

And, yes, "I'm rendering" works so well I try to use it in my everyday life.

So who wrote that article? God? I guess I didn't get that message so I am destined to be an outcast forever. I didn't realize only one authority could be right. :-(
 
the new york times writers is dead wrong.
save different versions of projects by going through the finder and duplicating project files is a pain in the ass workaround and NOT a new way of doing things for example.
he cant rescue this major fail for deadline driven team working facilities.

What do you want to know from Adobe? We answer lots of things, not everything of course but we try. I hang in the adobe workflow area.

And isn't Projects now timelines and the session is an Event?

I absolutely agree that RED is unique, but publishing a roadmap for professional level applications is not so uncommon. Here are 2 examples that come to mind:

It's especially important when releasing v1.0 software or a "reboot" of existing software that is lacking in functionality. Had FCP X had the same basic functionality as FCP 7, and by that I do not mean there could not be big changes to how to do things, I mean that they can be still be done by some method, then a roadmap would not have been necessary. Since they released an incomplete program, where much of what could be done in FCP 7 can not be done now, a roadmap is a must.

Yeah. Because Red has published their long term roadmap, and we're on board with that. They communicate, and say "Here's a early version of RCX, it only reads clips right now, but were're working on LUA scripting, XML in/out, histograms, audio sync, and more..."

So we say "Cool. It's a bit sparse now, but I can buy into this because we share the same goals".

Same for the cameras. No epic playback, but we know that pro and necessary feature is just around the corner.

EDIT: Redundant... sorry. Didn't see all the other posts saying the same thing.

These are smaller, boutique companies with a relatively small market share, not the big companies that I mentioned before.

This is where you'll find roadmap info for this particular company's next gen OS called Lion, its next gen mobile OS called iOS5 and its cloud computing service called iCloud. Lion was previewed ages ago and all of these announcements give you an idea where this company is headed. Apple gets some things right and some things wrong. They've gotten most things right on a game changing level in the last 13 years or so. I think it's because they get so many right on such a grand scale that people get so upset when they screw up. It's all about expectations, you see.

So, they blew one. Meh. I'm not that worried about it. I could be wrong but I think they'll get it together. I was more upset when Fox cancelled "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles". By the time it went off the air, it was one of the best shows on TV. I still watch Fox, though. I can't stay mad at Rupert Murdoch for long.

For me it looks like FCP X is completely useless as a professional tool. Could Apple be so lame as to think that X was a replacement for FCP 7? Maybe not.
Maybe they gave up on making a professional editing tool to concentrate on consumer products. Maybe there is Final Cut Pro 8 and maybe Apple sold it to RED!
The we'd get a professional tool!
 
hey scott, its totally cool for me that you like it and see the future abilities of the app. of course ther will come the baselight plugin, the dpx plugin...just imgaine fcpx as a giant iphone interface where you can customize to your needs by third party and apple plugins, lik you do with all the iphone apps. and there will be a chart with the most popular fcpx plugins too. and there will be media management plugins....everything has to be purchased through the app store, so this time apple will earn money directly from the plugin vendors.
a plugged up fcpX will easily cost 2000 USD or much more and this super plug in app will probably be the super app we expected today.
and there will come even more crazy shit which we cant even think about today. good for the future. but who really knows?

This new version of Final Cut is pure genius. Sure it's missing some pro features, but all of these features will be added in future updates. Everyone is ignoring the good and only focusing on the bad. This is a revolutionary NLE. The good FAR outweighs the bad. The previous version is clunky and primitive. This version far exceeds it in almost every aspect. I am both blown away by this new software, and by the amount of resistance against it. I'm sure that when the dust settles, FCP X will be on top.

Totally agree. And the way in which it is built on a database is really started to get me thinking about the possibilities. :thumbup1:
