  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FINAL CUT PRO X now supports native R3D

Alright so I think I figured out the issue. I think FCPX just isn't compatible with older footage. I just cut together some test footage I found when the Epics and Scarlets first started coming out. Cut together 2 5K clips and a 4K HD clip and it was as smooth as butter. Had to do a little background rendering on the 4K clip (because it was a 5K project) but it played through it while it was rendering like nothing. And no weird green issue. It's no big deal to me. I don't see myself using Build 16 r3ds anytime soon. But here's a screen grab to show what was really going on.

Kinda fits your company name ;)
Sorry I couldn't resist.

Evil Green Frame

Evil Green Frame

I just wanted to say that I too experience the green frame in Final Cut Pro X. That said, it doesn't happen in every instance, but when it does happen, it is always when the playhead is stopped on a frame. I have simply started to ignore it, even though it is distracting, and hope for a software update from Apple or Red to fix it in the coming weeks. Playback and rendered content does not display any of the green frames, thankfully.

I am running:
OS 10.6.8
MacBook Pro - 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo; 8 GB RAM

I went as far as 2 year old R3Ds with my tests.
These are from RED MX.
No green to be seen.

first green frames today....with footage shot yesterday....does not show up after export....i had not seen it before but imported a larger number of clips at once today into a new event....seems like a bug to me, but nothing serious.....comes and goes, does not cause any problems with actual work...

Can folks start showing their system specs.
Ive tested on:

Mac Pro 2.66/ATI5770
Mac Pro 2.93/NVIDIA Quadro 4000
Mac Pro 2.93/NVIDIA Quadro 4800

I also have had a similar problem. I'm using a Macbook Air 1.7Ghz which before working with 4K Uncompressed files was fine, but now that I updated to use .r3d natively I get blue in my shadows. I could work with it in editing, but it continued through export.

I'm in the same boat except im using a 13" retina macbook pro.

There are some impressive things and then some things that just seem too un-pro, so for a simple web edit i'm finding FCPX to work well....but when i need to get into motion control and keyframing and some just advanced features, i go back to PrPro....i see that i also need to put in more time with FCPX, but for those advanced functions i seem to be always using and mixed media, i think i'm so used to controls in PrPro and FCP7....just seems FCPX is far to i-movie...and to get to advanced functions i have to put a clip into my timeline to manipulate it instead of working form the preview monitor....maybe i have not figured it out correctly, but that's how it goes for me....

I cant even fathom doing that in any NLE.
After Effects is my go to app for such things :)

I'm experiencing Green Tints on certain clips now too... I was hoping it wouldn't matter when exported but the clip is also green in the exported file... Hmm what to do.

Can we get everyone in on their specs so we can at least narrow this down?

I testd only on Mac Pro's.
I can test on a 2009 Uni 17" and a 15" Retina but need some time to gather the gear.

Possible Solution to Green Screen

Possible Solution to Green Screen

Here is a possible fix for the green footage issue -

I ran into this with some old footage too (also on a 5770) - I believe it is just an RMD file issue with the color science on older firmware footage.

What I did to work around it was change from Red Color 2 to Red Color 3 in the FCP X popup. You can do this for multiple clips in the event library by selecting a group.

Once I did this, I could toggle it back to other color science and gamma settings.

Johnny - select a clip and type Control-V - have you seen this before? You can also enable bounding box and keyframe viewing in the viewer - so you can click and move the clip around up there and control easing. There is an icon in the lower left that looks like a bounding box you can use to enable this.

Based on the fact that it is also in the export - I think it is an RMD issue. I'd be interested if this is the correct solution - so post back if changing the color science back and forth solves the green decoding issue. (This refreshes the RMD file).

Not sure if it was fixed but the Shift constraint hasnt worked since 10.0.0.
I will check when I get to a FCPX box.
Use the Inspector (Command+4) to control your Transform properties.

Broadcast monitoring

FCP X

Is possible has broadcast monitoring using Black Magic DeckLink HD Extreme ?

Constraint on scaling the clip "is the default behavior" - When you press the shift key it disables the constraint.
