  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FINAL CUT PRO X now supports native R3D

Wow...so with the proxy generation could you potentially edit on a Mac Book Pro without a Red Rocket?

first impressions are really positive :
- playback is really responsive - on macbookpro retina, 4K HD 8:1 footage.
playback is set in preferences to Better Performance, so its a bit soft, but for editing its fine...
also nice is that the .RMD file of each RAW file is linked live = change the look in REDCineX and immediately adapted in FCPX.
- editing is also very responsive.
- for long form i would let FCPX first calculate the proxies, those are in HD and prores proxy, nice offline quality, and set the look to
what the DOP had in mind. then the RAW disks can be disconnected during the editing
for conforming : connect the disk with the RAW files to the computer, and let FCPX calculate the final prores 444 or 422 HQ. You could before easily change the RMD to a flat or different look if the grading was done somewhere else,
I also need to test sending a XML from FCPX to Resolve Lite to do the grading with the RAW files..
The genius in this workflow and software are the automatic proxy files of FCPX, which are small, think DVCAM size= 13GB/hr, and are really fast during editing and of a decent quality.
- good stability during my short test = no crashes at all , fast response times ...

Wow, I was wondering if they would announce something at the Apple Event.

Great surprise.

Can't wait to get home and try it.

Sure, but you could already do that with the R3D when you set it to decode at a lower resolution

Absolutely a FCPX endorser. Easier and cleaner. Love that they and Red figured it out. Tried CS 6 and truly was no excited. It wasn't fun to edit on Premiere in my opinion. FCPX brings me back to when I first began with FCP 1.0

Great stuff!

Way better than a tiny iPad!

Here my steps :

- Download it
- Install it
- Restart the mac pro (OS X MOUNTAIN LION)
- Verifying the redcode icon is in the preference system
- Run FCPX 10.0.5

And... it...

DOESN'T WORK.

FCPX doesn't recognize any R3D files.

You need to update FCPX to 10.0.6.

You probably need to update to the New FCP X 10.0.6

you need 10.0.6 and make sure you download the red installer as well....

Yes, you need FCP X 10.0.6. Older versions are NOT going to work.

I just looked outside and all the Mac/FCP users are all like:

Where is Terry VerHaar? He must be too busy downloading to comment.
