  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FINAL CUT PRO X now supports native R3D

Sure takes a long time for R3d's to transcode in background even with RR card....and mine is activated within the system preferences....but WHY is it SO SLOW....

HOw are they playing within the sequence? Choppy? I get half res playback within PP with Rocket.

Really, I get this message:

"Final Cut can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because OS X version 10.8.2 or later is required. You can update OS X from the Updates page of the App Store."

K, 10.6.8 or later.

*phewf*

type in NO and continue your install....anyway, that's weird...i'm not on 10.8.2--in fact staying FAR away from it...on 10.7.5

Plays like crap here.... :(
So so sad...

Looks like a RED ROCKET and RED LOG FILM - PRO RES life is for me for now. Sadly Arri must have know this and got it right with 4444 Log C. (for quick workflow reasons)

Sorry Mr R3D, you have to ge back into your box until the next generation of computers come out before I can play and render you in real time...

Im sure everyones got the best intentions.. but sadly the R3D is still to chunky for the current world... unless you make your self a SUPER COMPUTER!

I get half res playback in Premier Pro CS6 with a Sonnet RR enclosure on a decked iMac. What type of system are you rocking?

Getting the same message! Any workaround?? EDIT Rolled back to 10.8.1 like many on the retina with ROcket because of lack of compatibility with Rocket Thunderbolt and 10.8.2 . We can't go to 10.8.2 yet, so any help on getting 10.0.6 FCPX on 10.8.1 OSX?

Ha - Mark, with all due respect, you have been known here to occasionally jump to conclusions and then backtrack later... I haven't tested the R3Ds extensively yet but I have been able to get smooth playback. Maybe try digging around a little...

Hey Mark,

Was this on your laptop? Normal quality w/o Rocket is 1/4... any Intel Mac should be able to play that back.

Did you check the status of background processes before you threw in the towel? FCPX could be doing a number of operations on your files after initial import that can put a strain on resources until they finish. It depends upon your settings.

I have been using FCP7. Was going to switch to premiere, since I have a BT Scarlet on its way soon. Looks like this might be the way to go.

ps still no native R3d support for FCPS3 without transcoding, right? I am a Scarlet shooter, so no qt proxies on my mag..

That will never happen in that old version as there is no way to write a plugin for that.

If you need QT reference files you can create those in REDCINE-X PRO, but you may want to think about a ProRes workflow or switching to a newer NLE ;)

Using this made me cry. Literally. With gratitude. And relief. After such problems with Redcine-x (that I've posted in the help forum) Final Cut Pro X works perfectly and is using all 1200% of my CPU power to display what I assume is 1/2 res debayer NATIVELY. I can't even play 1/4 in redcine-x (i'm without a red rocket).

This is AMAZING. And because of this, I'm going to throw myself into Final Cut X. Haven't used it for anything serious but this update came on the morning I was due to start editing a big project. I've been watching FCPX videos on Apple's website and it now, with this update, does everything FCP7 did that's important (at least to me) and has so many nice new features as well. Just finished keywording all my clips :)

I still need to get used to the timeline but I discovered the 'position' tool which allows you to move things around as it were FCP7 (instead of the magnetics of the new timeline).

Being able to change RAW settings right within FCPX is amazing. Thanks Apple and RED.

Ill take that as a friendly dig... :)

Ive dug around all day, but super smooth playback or scrubbing I cannot get at all on my laptop using R3D's, like I can with prores 4k or 2k. (for obvious reasons)

Ill keep digging. but if anyone else is getting smooth scrubbing on the latest laptop using R3D's in any resolution, please share me your settings.

Thanks.

This post single handly brought me back to FCP
