I am about to DP a feature in NYC on Monstro. I am trying to crew my departments with as many qualified females as possible. I know the city is very busy but Please send me names and resumes!

Many thanks

Don't get me wrong - the more women around, the better. I mean that seriously.

But, as a professional, your priority is, surely, to find the best suited people for a given project, regardless of their sex. Am I right? Having said that, women do certain things better. So, perhaps female DITs are generally better than male ones. If not, then there seems no point in discriminating.

Most often the mandate comes from production - whether it be for the comfort of the actors or other reasons. There are many fantastic female DITs out there and I appreciate any effort to help get qualified female represenatation on set. Especially in the camera department.

Carmen del Toro Mc Guire

Carmen aka Lady Data also warmly recommended here (she worked on Narcos ...)

Also Michelle Delorimer is a very good (LA based) female DIT....

I first met Tiffany Armor about 11 years ago. She's my first choice of DIT when I'm working in NYC.

This argument again. It's the feminist equivalent of "I can't be racist, I have black friends!"

A diverse crew is a **better** crew. Diversity of life experience and point of view is just as much an important skillset as the technical stuff.

@Peter thank you for being proactive about gender diversity on your team. It's awesome.

For everyone else, re-watch Alan Caso's acceptance speech from last year's ASC awards for some insight on why this shit is so important.

And again the LGBTQ and the rest of the alphabet is discriminated, not because of their lack of skills but for their gender...

He understands

Just like Will Smith not having the right shade of brown.

Better for what? For diversity itself? Sure thing. But (a big one):

A DIT means profession, a female does not...unless one is running a brothel.

Ouch... Balancing an icy answer with my Moderator rights...

Either way it is political.

Workplaces are different (gee... diverse...) in themselves.

Creating a workplace where the ones one hire excel, is a challenging job in itself. (yup, by now I know).

Diversity can be an approach to make the whole thing work better.

I know for us it has been a key strength to hire "different people than ourselves".

Then you sometimes get what you didn't know you needed.

THAT is why having a conscious approach to that, can be good. It brings the extra that you didn't know was necessary.

If you think DIT is a robotic job, well then you are right. And it can be replaced by robots/programs.

I know...it really is slippery, but my point is this:

You (not you, Gulleik) say: I need whites (or blacks, reds, yellows...), I'll call you a racist; you say I need males (or females), I'll call you a sexist; you say I need Italians (or French, Germans...), I'll call you a nationalist.
What you need an Bulgarian for?

Say: I need a DIT, and I'll call you a pro!

I'm out...

OK, but if you're on a an Italian speaking movie, a DIT that only speaks German is not going to be as useful right?

You see where I'm going with this yeah?

I get it, but that doesn't mean that a DIT has to be an Italian...only that DIT should speak Italian. Right?

All people want to know that they got hired because of their skill, vision, reputation, etc. And men and women have different priorities and preferences, so let's not force it. I was way out-numbered by women in my last job, and we all got along really well. There were no attempts made at 'balancing' the workplace, and rightly so.

BTW - I can't give any details - many years ago I was pushed out of a position because I was male. Of course this depends on the reliability of my source, but there you have it. At the end of the day, though, you just move on.

Keep radiating good vibes. It's your vibrations that matter!

yay sexsism but its fine as its against males :D

would like to see the reaction if someone posted "position wanted - males only"
