For some reason FCPX recognizes all adjustments made in Redcine-X (latest version), except for the Alchemy Group. Is this a known thing? Is it a bug or on the list to add this funtionality? Is the only way to render out from Redcine-X and import those files into FCPX?

Any post effect applied in RCX including Alchemy group (but also the secondary saturation or film look and unsharp sharpen settings) are only visible (and rendered) in RED CINE-X for now.

The settings are saved in the .RMD files but since they are not part of the debayering itself they cannot be applied by the other apps until RED either released exact version of this effects as plug-ins for those 3rd party apps or incorporate them inside the Software Dev Kit (SDK).

I see, thanks for the quick replies. I guess it is back to good old render time again then for this project.

I hope it gets updated in the SDK soon so more software can work with it.

i was really excited when the fcpx plug in came out but then i realized that only a few basic adjustments actually work...no curves, no alchemy, no sharpen, no film look...just basic color temp, iso, flut,..

Any updates?

The only software that recognizes alchemy group is RCX.

If you want to use alchemy, you have to render the footage through RCX then import the footage with the "look" on it into fcpx

this said, there are many fx factory plugs that you could string together to simulate alchemy effects in fcp x
