  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I get under 10fps in resolve with 4k r3d files even with halv res good and no effects applied.

Supermicro 7047A-T workstation inkl:
x9dai mother board
2 x 3.1 GHz 8-core Xeon E5-2687W
8 x 8 GB DDR3 ECC reg 1600 MHz, Samsung
240 GB SSD, Intel 520
EVGA GeForce GTX 680 4 GB, PhysX Cuda
240 GB SSD for os
internal raid with 523mb/s write and 531mb/s read

I must have set some funky settings in resolve. I know I only have one graphic card in it right now. Will add a gtx 690 or something later, but still.

Perhaps some one with a x9dai mother board could chime in on where you put your cards.

How sensitive is it that you run the recomended 296.88 drivers for nvidia and the 4.2.9 cuda. I have 5.0.1 cuda drivers installed.

It's because you don't have a Red Rocket...

I have a less powerful config than yours (see below), except I have a red rocket... and I get 24fps in 5k Half Res Premium no problem. Once I go up to full res, I get about 18-20fps... and if I start adding nodes, then it'll decrease.

When it comes to R3D files, Resolve needs the Red Rocket for anything close to real time playback.

Also, in regard to adding corrections, the key factor is discreet GPUs with lots of CUDA cores. So in respect to Resolve, having a Dual Exon processor really won't give you much more performance than an Intel i7 Quad Core... it's all about how many GPUs you have.

Mac Pro i7 Six Core
48 GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB SSD Samsung 840 (2x 512GB)
EVGA GTX 680
Red Rocket

I was hoping somw of all x9dai mother board users hear would chime in. Tearinf of my hair over this.
Which order do you have your cards. Any test program i can run to find tje error.perhaps the virus program choking it. Will look at that.

Can you list your exact slot placement? This is not the motherboard model we test and spec so it would be difficult to help.

Hey Joel, I by no means have a superfast computer here, but realised I had my scopes on another screen up while still trying to playback footage. This caused my FPS to be awful (and rightly so on my config). Just mentioning this on the off chance that you might have your scopes up too. Having said that I still only get 1/4 res realtime but I am only running on a single i7 Quad core too.

Hey Rohit,

I asked this in another thread, but is there any harm in working in a 1080 timeline and then changing it to 4K before output for performance? Does the Blur/Sharpen filters scale properly or do I need to adjust those when changing resolution?

Thanks!

If i look at the cpu usage i am between 15 to 33% never higher. Seams to only use 10gig of ram. Perhaps 500mb/s read write is to slow?

Just did the candle test and I only get realtime 24fps at 6 blur nodes (deleted two from the 8blur node).

edit;
did a test now with the quadro fx 580 as dedicated gui. It did nothing good so It should not be the problem when running davinci on a single gtx680.

If you have the x9dai motherboard where did you put your cards? I have the gtx 680 in slot 5.is this the best place? Aldo where do i put the decklink card?

Yep will get a 690 later but with no grade node i think it would not matter. Need to get that running first. Have you tried your beast in windows aswell? I get the same 7-8fps with only a quadro fx 580 as i get with single 680 or with both.
I se in bios that the mb only running the ram at 1333hz instead of 1600. Is this a major speedbump?

Here is the bmd distest

Joel,
from my experience you have to use two video cards, one for gui and one for cuda.
Otherwise there are problems.

Yes i tried with both and i did score 2fps worse on the candle test compared to a single 680.
With just the quadro fx 580 i get the same 7-8fps as with single 680. In candle test the quadro doing really bad.

Enter the two video cards and tell me what you see in the system overview of resolve.

Will do a complete system reinstall tomorrow and se if it helps. I know resolve recongnise both cards and the 680 for gpu. I think it also said gui on the quadro fx 580.

if you install 2 cards nivida, fx 580 for gui and 680 for cuda in the system overview you see only the 680 or the system does not work or be very slow.
