  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fast computer low fps?

For single GPU be sure to check 'Use optimized display mode during playback' in the Master Project Settings.

I run Resolve on one system with a single Quadro FX 5800 (relatively slow these days), and get realtime playback on most grades with 6 nodes or less, and I get realtime on 2 nodes with blur radius at 1.00.

This system is old, has a single 3Ghz i7, and only 18MB RAM, no redrocket (obviously .r3d don't play back realtime at full).

Point is, single GPU should not be the cause of poor playback on ungraded footage. There must be something else going on.

Also, the Resolve scopes will slow performance down with a single GPU, so keep those off.

What image scaling settings are you using. Sharpest, smoother or billinear. Is this something that the graphic card will handle or cpu? I just reinstalled the system to verify that my gtx 680 wasnt working proper..started some days back to freak out. But I do some testing on a single quadro fx 580 while waiting on my 680 to be replaced.

After the new installation I get 18fps on halres good debayer with billinear filter on. For some reason I get little worse result with the "use optimize display mode during playback"
If I choose the default sharpest I get the 7-8fps with halfres good.

using the billinear feature lets my cpus work more while using the sharpest option they work less..Whats going on, it suppose to be the opposite!

half res premium gives 18fps to with billinear? And the cpu works littel more (up to 60%). Hopefully a proper working 680 will fix realtime after all. Im so tired of all troubleshoting...

My cpu load never go beyond 35%...

Joel,
I would try with 2 grapchics cards. Just to be sure would use an ATI for Gui.
and an Nvidia Cuda for. So as to avoid any problem of graphics card.
Reading your post is like if you have the cpu block, check the speedsteep and turboboost be enabled in the bios of the mainboard.
Utimi installed the nvidia driver and the latest cuda.
What kind of R3d are using red epic? 5kff or 4khd, compression type 3:1 or 6:1?
Do you know how to proceed;)

I used 4k 6:1. What is utimi? I just install the latest nvidia drivers 310.90 WHQL
Isnt the latest cuda included there?

I did run a windows test posted below. I got a Swedish windows version but If your familiar to windows it would be easy to read anyway. I dont know how to read it but it seams like the discs running slow with resolve? or maby I just read it wrong.

who can help me? My resolve slow as hell. 0-1FPS for my footage, GPU always Green but do not work, so is the GUI response. E5-2690*2, 128G DDR1600 ECC, Quadro600 as GUI only and GTX690, RAID Speed over 2GByte/s,Avid and Premiere and SpeedGrade all run very smooth and can use 100% CPU and use lots of GPU. The resolve is the first video software I bought because it has a discount now(3800rmb with a keybord), all other software is still in trial but all work fine. The support do not know much and said they may call me next day.

what motherboard do you use? I hade a problem with my gtx 680 so I changed it to a 690 instead wich will get here next week. I post the progress. Now I only have a quadro fx 580 in to get a project out. Its funny I get better fps with that old card. Try to change the scaling and se what happens. I get 18/19 fps with billinear and about 8fps on sharpest. I hope I can turn this back to sharpest when I get the 690.

try to force gpu..

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 1
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 1
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

It seemed more and more weird. 720P 24FPS H.264 file still 0-1FPS, and the software aways stop at the start now. I reinstalled several time and got different speed, but none was acceptable, the best result is 720P in 12FPS(no effects). I installed the mac version on my new MBPR and it runs very fast. On win7 it just do not work properly, while all other software run perfect( I kind of fall in love with AVID MC right now, I will buy one right after the trial, Pr has bad support on S3D even with the help of SpeedGrade, I really hope Avid can support S3D correction mode with other FPS than just 24 now). Hope the support can help me out.

I unplugged the Q600, now Resolve works kind of properly, 720P still unnormal but 5K FF now quarter good get 24FPS or even 29FPS(original file is 48FPS), Half Good 14FPS, with Sharpest scale still got 10FPS. CPU is anyway under 60%, I do not know why( SG 100%, PR 100%, AVID 100% after closing mainboard's HT). But without 10bit the color feels a bit downgraded, and resolve seemed only use one chip in 690 for CUDA, spare one for GUI only. I think it is the driver's problem, I really should use FirePro for GUI, Quadro driver mixed up with GTX.

The support guy said their support service actually do not support resolve on windows yet, on MAC q600+ GTX680 will work just fine, but on windows it won't work according to their tests and all their suggestion is go buy a MAC PRO....

Thank You, Peter! It's Great Help! Now q600 works perfectly with GTX690, and my 5KFF and 5KHD footage get 31FPS with Sharper filter scale and quarter good, 16FPS with Sharper filter Half good!

BTW, what's the meaning of "quadro600(2D only)", is that means q600 can not work well with S3D clips?

Dear Peter,
Thank you again, but I can not get the meaning, you mean Q4000 can do something on red files? Really? Or you mean some S3D corrections? I am working on stereo3D now (from shot to final grade, now grade is my almost last thing to study, so I am still new on resolve, this is the first day I am on it, I do not even have clear concept yet), so could you please give me some more details?
BTW, I actually just changed the driver to old 301.42 on both quadro and GTX after reading the PDF. Now resolve works fine except one more weired thing, I can run resolve on my ASUS278G,1920*1080 8bit screen, but can not run it on my Dell2713H 2560*1440 10bit screen? I attached these two screen together with my Q600, ASUS via DVI-D and DELL via DP. I can use Resolve on ASUS and reading web on DELL with both screen working, but I can not run resolve on DELL, not even I just turn on one screen. Although this is not some big thing , but it's really weired.

I do not know what to say, it seemed after some time it will always get halted. Now Resolve stopped again.
The Error Dialog is always the same, "The Nvidia OpenGl driver lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue. The application must close. Error Code:2"

Can I use a ATI card or geforce card to replace the Q600? Anyone tried? Or can I force Resolve to use both Chips instead of use one as GUI only?

Does not sound to good. With my gtx 680 that went down I did get a simulare error when i was rendering from premiere or did a playback in davinci. Hope not my new card will stop working aswell.

Did you have a supermicro workstation. IF what motherboard?

Motherboard is ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS, with 7 PCIE3, you can use 4 16X with one 8X or 5 8X and two 16X. CUBIX is not in need then, in fact if it's essential, I can plug 3 690 right now, together with Extream 3d or RR, and my LSI 9270 Raid card( the expander card do not need a PCI slot, I intalled it to the chasis- CoolerMaster COSMOSII has a slot on the side for that kind of card ) . My power is 1500W, I calculated that will be just enough power for that except I have too set the Raid pin up slowly( I have 18 ES.2 3T Seagate HD, which will also consume quite some power)

As soon as I remove the Q600, everything went well, but resolve again use 690 as 680, one chip use as GUI only again, but anyway I do not want to waste too much time on that now. I am studying the manual. I just want to know can I let Resolve to use all two chips for GPU, one in share mode (that will be faster I think, at least when q600 works it's a bit faster without too much GPU calculation), or can I use another ATI firePro or some Geforce card for GUI only? I do not want try and waste money and time right now.

If you have a single 690, and want to force both GPUs to be used for compute, you can do enter this in Preferences/Advanced, save, and restart:

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 2
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0 1
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

If you force the 690 to do this, does the part of it used for gui suffer? otherwise this is the way to go.
