  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EXTRA RAVEN PACKAGE - WHAT SHOULD IT BE?

The problem for me is: with Redvolt XL I can still pretend it's a camera. With anything else, like V-mounts, it's more like an image making machine.

I'd very much like to have a camera. All the negative posts about XLs gives me pause. I hope that's fixed.

Sold all my XL's. Anton for me now. Plus the XL quad charger is a beast to lug around. Antons can be used on so many other things like monitors and lights.

You can get tiny v-mount as well. I've never used AB for some reason but have always had good luck with the V-mount.

Well... for me we can close this thread...

The RED RAVEN Base I/O package is what I need in the base package.

See you.

Pat

Heres what people appear to be gravitating towards:

2 x 240GB x8
1 x 240GB x5
7" Screen x 5
mini mag reader x 6
New Sidehandle x 6
Sidekick x 1
RED BRICKS x 2
Redvolts XL + Charger x 2

Once all suggestons are in, Ill make a poll on Friday.

Keep the ideas coming!!

2 x 240GB would be better than 1 x 120GB as media is critical to run the camera.

Are we trying to gravitate toward a basic setup package or do you guys feel the two existing packages already cover that?

I too am concerned about Red Volts (regular and XL). There's seems to be a lot of negative posted about them. I agree V-Mount is more versital.
I think another point that's been made is that a lot of the new Red owners are coming from DSLR backgrounds and are typically used to 7" screen sizes for external monitors. But I'm ok with the 4.7" if I means keeping initial costs down. I still view Raven as a gateway drug. It will be for me.

hmm most people who are used to DSLR usually freak out when they see anything larger than a 2.5 inch screen, let alone touch screen. don't forget man, you can get an amazing deal on a 7" + monitor that can be plugged into the camera.. shoot wireless feed to a 15-21" monitor and take it to the next level as well. 4.7 is plenty for what the display needs to do.

This is what I would like on a package. (based on the I/O)

Basically same as IO with no monitor, 2x 240GB, Sidekick and red station added.

1 RED RAVEN BRAIN w/ Media Bay / Canon EF Mount
1 DSMC² Base I/O V-Lock Expander
1 AC POWER ADAPTOR (DSMC)
1 RED STATION RED MINI-MAG
1 SIDEKICK
2 RED MINI-MAG - 240GB
1 DSMC² Universal Handle

Assuming the Raven will be getting hand me downs from big brother Dragons and most buyers in the Raven's price range will be buying stuff on the used market, how about...

The Little Brother Package:

-lemo adapters
-xl module
-IO expander
2 Redvolt XL batteries
-240gb card or 2x120gb cards
-Mini mag reader
-DSMC2 Outrigger handle

Remember, the question is: "What package that is different than the base IO package?" The new package would have to make sense when compared to the base IO package (either be different or expanded).
I'm guessing the big questions here are:
Redvolt, V-mount, or none.
4.7 in. monitor, 7 in., or none.
Include minimalist media (128), more realistic media (2x256), or none.

Brain
240GB SSD
RED Volt Batteries x2
Charger
4.7 monitor
V-mount
RED Mini Mag
AC Power Adaptor

Can someone please answer:

what basic module(s) do I need for the raven Brain to do the following:

1. be able to attach SDI monitor via hd-sdi cable
2. be able to attach red bricks to power the camera
3. be able to plug the camera in via AC Adaptor to the wall to power it
4. be able to plug in red EVF via lemo cable
5. be able to work the menus of the camera, etc.

Thanks

The Base I/O w/V-mount (coming out in March apparently) is your best bet for 1, 2, 3 and 4. And a Side Kick to work the menus (unless you have a touch screen).

I am probably the oddity here but I am more interested in a studio style set up.

So for me a base camera package is something like:

Brain
Dsmc Red volt expander i/o
2 red volts and charger
4.7 touch
Standard handle
1 or 2 (120 or 240 mags)
Mini mag reader
Ac power
I would love to be surprised by a battery plate ala the et weapon gold mount
