Ok, see this fantastic post from Jarred below:

But we do have some time to add another bundle to the mix if you guys can all agree on what you want that bundle to look like... You should discuss amongst yourselves and then someone start a poll.

It appears RED is open to creating an extra RAVEN package, if clear need/demand is demonstrated.

Lets start making a LIST of what people would like to see, and on FRIDAY I'll make a poll, cool?

Here's some requests that have already come up:

1) 7" instead of 5" monitor
2) 240 Mini Mag instead of 128
3) New Side Handle

Post other ideas below! And we'll get a sense of what packages people could be interested in.

Thanks!

I really liked that Jarred opened the door for this…

I can totally see VERY different needs for media. I honestly think that RED should just let users pick their package media size at checkout and let the store figure out a somewhat discounted price for that item. I mean, RED has to produce lots of all the Mini-Mag sizes anyway, right? Is it too much to ask for that RED takes media out of the equation?

The new functional, yet unknown handle might be different. Same goes for 7" monitor. RED benefits from not over producing these.

It's hard to make a good call before knowing what's on the table. I'd really like to see all the items/modules before deciding what the ideal package might be.

1) The side handle is definitely something I'll do
2) 240's or 512s for media would be a nice option (vs. a 120)
3) I don't think Red's doing a Base/IO with XLR or mini-XLR but if they are, I'd jump on that over a mini jack (I don't need aux power, for example)

Personally I'm happy with the smaller, lighter 4.7" touch-screen, but I'm sure some would prefer the 7" or the option of an EVF.

Thanks for asking, Nick!

Personally I ordered the Raven Brain only because:

1. The discounts on the packages weren't very great.

2. 120GB is too small for me. Offer 2x 240GB Mags for a discounted rate and you have my interest.

3. Why pay $1500 for a 720p monitor when SmallHD offer a 1080p HD one for $600 that is detachable and I can use it with other camera systems? Or a $1500 1080p one that is daylight-viewable?

4. Base I/O module and Jetpack module both seem expensive for what you get. Offhollywood's 3rd-party modules seem to offer a lot of advantages - built in Ambient TC generator and wireless TC receiver, good mic preamps, LUT support, built in battery so you can swap batteries without powering down camera, etc. Instead of buying an expensive, medium-level RED Base I/O with a tiny discount, I'd rather put my money into the Offhollywood stuff.

That said, I'm interested in the new side handle! I'm not very interested in RED Outrigger handles or whatever but maybe that's just prejudice. I've seen several RED ONE handles fall apart and most of the DP owner-operators I know prefer their own non-RED handle systems. Maybe RED's current offerings are good. The last time I checked, their handles, shoulder mounts, etc seemed just a little bit ergonomically inferior to the 3rd party stuff. But perhaps I've written them off prematurely.

Perhaps I'm just not a good candidate for RED's package discount, ha!

Nick, if you're interested in buying a 12-pack of 512GB media and splitting it up, let me know. I'm down for one :)

- dsmc2 "complete" side handle instead of the "standard" one (this would my first wish)
- two redvolts + charger
- mini mag reader (not really an expensive tool, not a big deal to buy it outside but why not)

Wow. You guys get treated by RED like this all the time? That is superb customer service. Actually listening to what people has to say.

Do we know if the rumored side handle will be using regular redvolt and not xl?

I would be a new RED convert upon buying a Raven package... and I am still holding out a bit before I pull the trigger. A new around here face either way.

I am a documentary cinematographer, who for the past year really, has been weighing the FS7 and C300 mark II options forthcoming... meanwhile continuing to shoot on my C100. I don't think I am along in this camp, and I am eager to try to build the ideal package when I do make this jump.

All this said, from what I can gather, Nick's early suggestions appear spot on for me. I would be doing a fair amount of handheld work, alongside tripod mounted stuff, and the 7" screen and new handle would be HUGE benefits. And with long verite shoots, a couple 240GB mags will be better than 120GB for sure.

The only other question remaining for me, is whether is makes sens to try to handhold this camera in front of the body, bracing it against the chest in some way, or whether I would need to build a shoulder rig setup and consider the Red OLED EVF as well. (... I am lefty with my current C100 Zacuto EVF Setup... is that kind of reach even possible with this new 'wireless' EVF?).

I'd say neither. I think the handle connects electronically to the body (like the monitor) to allow it to control it, but doesn't add power.

That's what I've come to understand reading the forum and looking at the teaser image (and XL Volt wouldn't fit in a handle).

Old handle holds redvolt. I think it would be really strange if the connectors on the blind side of the camera could not take "power in" just like they do on the epic / scarlet. So I think if they make a side handle for raven / weapon then most likely you can put a Volt in it. That was kind of the idea with the sidehandle, hold the camera like a SLR and have small / short power source inside and when used together with other power sources it works as a hot swap option.

I think that would be awesome. Patiently waiting. Hope they will announce the side handle before Christmas

But if you look at this:

Do you feel a RedVolt finds in there? Note the amount of air between the handle and body.

I mean they do have the redvolt xl expander so im leaning towards no battery slot in the handle. Could be wrong though. That leaked picture showed it being pretty small

Wonder if thats the dsmc2 outrigger handle. So many questions ahhhh lol. I think you are right though Andree

No, Brent referenced this handle (from Jarred's teaser image of the 4.7" monitor) as the new, unannounced handle with functionality. The outrigger is just a dummy handle, or?

Thanx Jarred

Thanx Jarred

Here's a potential package:

Road Warrior Kit:

Raven Brain w/Media bay
7" touch screen
Base I/O
AC adapter
4x 240GB mags

For wildlife, docs, live events and other shooting scenarios where you need to be as self sufficient as possible, and lightweight for mobility. I like the 7" as in some situations it will be the only way to check focus and review clips out in the field - the 4.7" is smaller, but the weight difference is marginal and the smaller screen is not as easy to spot subtle issues on - if you have a 17" monitor on set, then you can use that for critical review - but if that's not in the mix... Having almost a TB of media on hand would be my minimum if downloading during the day is not an option due to logistics.

Price - I think i should let RED determine that if this kit has enough interest ;-)

Cheers - #19

No one has mentioned the XL module and XL batts/charger as a powering option. We've got the jetpack or V-mount and maybe a stealth redvolt option, but the XL seems like the best weight/run time compromise....

I want a 'shark with laser beams attached' option... Raven for the sky, Shark (with lasers) for the sea... I got land covered.

...pew pew pew...
