  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Extended Warranty

I,d like to revive this thread if possible. In the next few months many will have had their camera over a year and then their warranties will have expired. Did Red ever decide anything on this?

I suppose, but I liked the ideas that were being discussed earlier in this thread. A sort of "red care" or even "red insurance". I work independently and the rates for insurance are bit much.

I will soon (if Red decides not to do extended warranties). I have been in post for over a year and have used my red sparsely. So, I am just planning ahead. What company do you go through Zakaree?

Zakaree,

who do you go through? Any recomendations? Also does your insurance cover loss of pay if the camera is unavailable for scheduled jobs?

thanks,
Omar

Please hold your horses people.

Last time I talk to Jim, He said something like this.

"Be nice and we will support you and we will stand by our products"
"For bad boys and girls who talk $h!t and spread lies, the warranty is as is on paper"

I am summarizing of course, it's been a while.

Stop, pushing people.

I trust Jim totally on this, you all should too.

Just wait and see OK?

Jim will take care of us.

The idea of a replacement body for an owner/operator sounds good. A rental house would probably have spare bodies. Maybe on a as needed basis.

hi jon, brent,

to have a basic - what would be the worst case to repair in the camera (after warranty?) the sensor? something else? i am not speaking of acompletel crash of the camera when there´s violent impact and so on. just electronical issues all devices in the world can have.

fact ist - not all parts will have an issue at one time, so with a small repair you can live without warranty, but what would be the worst case on costs?
this would be a interesting info to put it in relationship to costs of a warranty extension i think.

btw - for us in europe for exampel a more relaxing situation of repair even without warranty would be an european service. everyone who had this pleasure - sending back products to USA can be very complicated and can causes costs.

Worst case scenario is having to replace the body. One customer did rent out their camera and the person renting the camera damaged it so badly, it had to be replaced. Hint: When trying to mount a camera on a custom rig, don't drill random holes in the RED ONE to create additional mounting holes.

Jim has announced a euro-service center is in the works already :)

drilling holes into the body of a rental camera,:waaa:
no comment :)

the euro center is a great support for the red-market in europe and we really appreciate this. we hope there´s a big opening party

thanks Brent! - so does that mean Red is not still considering extended warranties? I know the camera is tough, but I still handle it as if it were the last dodo egg...

i think brent and jon said some right things, we should understand.
the red body is in a great prize range and everybody who is also businessman can understand that there´s not much range. maybe there is the possibility of a compromise, maybe a warranty extension for the sensor and some other parts that would break some owners the neck if they die after a year. the question is, what is more expensive. to repair this or to pay for a warranty extension that will be high for sure.

after all i have experienced with the red team until today, even when warranty is gone i am sure there will be a fair repair offer in case of electronic issues by red.

Yes, me 2, extended warranty.

I help you guys with estimate,
$1K/year for extended warranty.
$2K/year for extended warranty and overnight replacement insurance

Apgrade plan to new major revision of RED 1 (RED1 to RED 2 etc.) would be nice as well.

With 5 boards inside you get $3.5 K in average for board replacement if defective.
And I wouldn’t want to have main video processing board fail on me, this could be $5K easy.

but this would be the parts maybe for the extended warranty.

otherwise if you have an insurance for your camera it can be fixed about this.
