  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

How are we going to be able to control focus on this thing? I have not used a standard REDMote. Is it a virtual knob??? Or what?

Yes. You can use any Nikon mount lens.

The lens mount will be a "dumb" mount ... there will be no metadata passed from the lens to the camera, and all functions of the lens will have to be manually controlled (as normal for the ZF lenses.)

There is a physical knob on the back of the RedMote. You can twiddle that for focus.

You can also use touch for focus if you have the new Red display.

Of course you can go "old school" and rig a gear with a manual follow focus. :)
 
If there's a physical knob on the REDMote we can use ala the Impero with the Birger, why do we need the REDMote Pro? Or are there a lot of other goodies involved with that one?

Because the physical knob on the RedMote is akin to the knob for iris on the back of a Canon DSLR. Really its more a thumbwheel.

You don't really want to use it to pull focus, except in a pinch.

The RedMote Pro will have a full sized handwheel like you'd find on a real follow focus.

It also does other things ... you saw my list above right?

Ergonomics, there will be an actual focus wheel on the Pro, and probably some other things as Jarred hinted in his inimitable way : )

Scarlet can use this mount. All the DSMC lens mounts are interchangeable between EPIC / Scarlet. That said, the majority of these lenses are not going to be that great of a fit on a 2/3" Scarlet system... There's always EPIC-S, though, whenever it arrives. Should be about 2X~3X the price of a 5Dm3 and will over a whole lot more... :)

So happy to hear that we can all get along now :-) .. I thought there was some bad blood with the whole 5D craze.. I'm guilty of jumping on the the 5D train... It actually made me the money that I have spent on all of my NEW EPIC STUFF :-) it's like the circle of life, or would that be the circle of confusion? It's the Corona's talking..
 
Wowzers. You guys really were serious when you said you wanted this mount.. almost sold the first batch out already :)

Wow, I got really lucky! I have been slammed with work and 30 minutes ago checked the Red store for the first time this week. Looks like I got my Canon mount ordered before the stampede.

That, and got my repaired Epic-M back yesterday, and my new Illumina prime lenses came today. Life is rocking!
 
Ha, got it! I was literally installing a new modem and it was the first page I refreshed. Thanks Qwest, er. I mean Centurylink...
