  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red chaps,

As I'm sure a few people do we drop the QT proxies into FCP edit away. One light in RA to tweak and render out on quick turn around jobs.

With the new 20 build n apps stuff are we ever going to see this working again? ie the proxies showing the correct temp set in RA?

Is there a certain K that the temp is of buy or is it more than that? Got close with +2860K before Make QT's

There was a mention of possibly curves coming across to proxies soon also :-/

Last Q :) Will we ever be able to split the colour space and gamma space for QT proxies?

Thanks

Simon

I think you'll need to just use an old copy of Red Alert for the moment to do this, until we get a new Quicktime codec.

Or use the latest Clipfinder, and switch on "use old color science" in the prefs, use "edit look settings", and then "make Quicktimes".

Hey bud:)

Yeah tried that (both).. Artist still got really cold images in FCP :-/

All the rental companies still running 18 or even 17.. :(

Will have another look see if we missed something.

Hey Si :)

Just opened a clip in Clipfinder with "old CS" on. If you have the loupe and QT windows open side by side, they look quite similar. Black level and gamma are different – as they've always been – but white balance is the same.

Yeah that's the weird thing.

When we rolled back the software QT did look the same as RA but it was still off just in FCP :-/

Be warned that if you use the curve adjustment, that won't be working in the proxy look. RED says that will get fixed soon, though.

I've noticed that if I set a grade in RedAlert and make proxies, the proxies look more contrasty and darker than the image in RA. When I bring the footage into FCP via Log and Transfer in FCP and use the look from RA this is still the case. Is there any good way to get RA and the proxies to match or do I have to just keep adjusting and making quicktimes until I like what I see? Also, can you not use Redspace color and REC709 gamma together for the proxies?

How mad would they get if you upgraded for them? We only have one Red at our shop but needed 3 for a tv show last year right before 18 came out and we upgraded the rental so we could be standardized across the board; as far as i know we didn't have any repercussions from the rental house!
