Really mike? I'm not in Cali, but based on RUser it feels like those are the numbers.
What do you think?
Am I really that out to lunch?
I think the period for Epic exclusivity, whether M or X, has long since passed. There is no need for numbering in the future because they have just become tools to use, not something that sets the owner apart from the crowd. Early adopters awaiting their X cameras are no more special than someone who bought a camera in the last days of eligibility and signed up for Stage 2. We are all quickly relegated from "Ferrari" owners to your everyday run of the mill Mercedes owners. The good news is we still get the Ferrari discount on our Mercedes.I think there are like 500 max.
M is a limited run handmade thing.
They'd never ship over 1000 epic M's with so many stage 2 and 3 customers waiting for X.
Even with M available now I guess there are maybe 25 or 50 more available taking it to 550 or something.
Over 1000 doesn't make it very exclusive.
There's a reason for that and there is always a plan. Just remember everything is subject to change including your own perceptions versus reality.
What does it matter?
If you know how to use a cam, Epic will set you apart.
If not
Epic won't make much difference
Cheers!

Stephen,
It would be better to sell 5000 epic x than 500 epic m. If the Japan tsunami had not happened then maybe those machines would be out there. Plus the body style just changed. So the EPIC X has not even been built yet except for a short run Of pre production models (mike fireman Ross posted a photo of an EPIC X in the wild).
Stage 2 are a very loyal customer base of early adopters. Why would Red want to bypass their commitment to people who put down deposits thinking they were first up for EPIC cameras.
Ha ha ha, Mr Williams you are such a provocateur. Why not sell 5000M , 5000X's & 50,000 S's, sell as many M's as people want, when demand falls off ramp up the X's when demand falls off Ramp up the S's.
Ha ha ha, Mr Williams you are such a provocateur.
Regards
Alright this is going to sound like a negative post toward RED but it really is not....For all of you waiting for an Epic X, you should be happy there are plenty of Epic Ms out there because they are working out all the bugs and limitations and REALLY improving the camera even more! In all honestly the Epic M is a great camera but it does not appear to be ready yet for everyone. There are still some basic things that are not enabled (such as playback, phantom power etc...) there are still some bugs, limitations and some "sluggishness" in the touch screen interface etc... in other words, it's still being tweaked and is not ready for a prime time mass release IMHO. Now I have no problem with this as we knew we were getting a beta camera when our Studio got en Epic M but we would have been pretty disappointed if the X shipped in the current stage that the M is in. Again I am not bashing RED. The Epic M is an awesome camera and yes you can shoot with it and do a lot of things as long as you are willing to work with a few workaround and limitations. The good news is by the time the X is shipped the camera will be a fully functional camera that you will get to enjoy and make wonderful images with it!(thanks to all the M testing! :thumbup1
I know it has been a long wait (we have two X on orders ourselves!) but I think the M program did a lot of good and while I was not a big fan of the M program at first, I now understand why it was needed and I'm glad RED went through it.
