  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X UPDATE

Jarred.

Since your doing the EPIC-M brain seperate, when we get to stage 4 purchases, will there be like an equivilant package with brain, SSD, remote, etc like what you offer for the M???

Just wondering if there will be a package or will it be a purchase everything seperatly?

:-))

Will the much discussed Pro I/O upgrade be available in these early batches?

Edit: I just noticed the I/0 module is no longer included in Stage 2 (a fair trade off for the Ti mount and side SSD), but the question stands: What is the prognosis for I/0 modules of any flavor? Was the standard I/O discontinued in favor of the Pro?

+1 on this

There will be pre-configured packages available to make things easier for you guys to get what you need without alot of research.. our product range has grown so dramatically its easy to get a little lost on what goes with what.

There will not be a significant discount on those pre-packages ( just like the M does not have a package discount ) as the current stage pricing we are offering you guys is pretty, how do I put it... insane.

jarred,

with the shipping of epic x - will there be "hope" on horizon to get the backordered stuff soon (still i have epic - m (since june) without charger, without evf) ? will epic x be shipped with charger?

thanks jan

I'll never ditch my Red One MX... NEVER!!!!!! I almost sold it to Ketch over a year ago until I got my wits about me and pulled out.. No offense Ketch.. The Red MX is just too valuable. It will live in Hollywood for many more years since it's now the staple of every production down here... I'm just stoked that I will have 2 cameras now because the Red MX does make a great b-camera to the Epic if need be..

Jarred,

Will more stuff hit the RED store as we edge toward the 29th and the first EPIC e-mails? Is that the day the first stage 2 customers will indeed be contacted?

Look, not looking at discount as you guys are doing more than enough and besides, there's RED Dragon upgrade that is very, VERY much appreciated.

Just be nice to get a pre-configured "recommended" package - nice to hear.

Research - nothing better than doing research, and I think anyone buying an EPIC should do their research, but nice to know that you guys are putting together a "RED Pro Kit" package together, which will probably have everything I have on my shopping list anyway.

As Jim said, not all incentives are financial :-)

Thanks Dude!

Not every incentive is financial.

Jim

Exactly. Just ask Microsoft ... their huge budget Encyclopedia barely got off the ground, crushed by Wikipedia being created by unpaid users.

If your motives were purely financial, you probably wouldn't have started Red. Thank God they are so much more :)

I just had one of my daft ideas. Bit OT for this thread, but...

All we know about Dragon is that it'll be a sensor upgrade for EPIC, slated for probably later 2012.

Any reason to think Dragon will *not* be available for RED ONE as well?

OK, RED ONE is more limited than EPIC from the point of view of CPU horsepower no HDRx, and data throughput, but still no reason for it not to take advantage of, for example, greater native DR, which I'm going to speculate will be a major feature of Dragon. And it IS upgradeable, as MX proved, of course...

I wonder if it will happen?

Mike

Well...if the Epic-S won't be able to qualify for the Dragon upgrade, I somehow doubt the Red One would...

Mike - although a nice thought, I don't think its going to happen. Jim has already stated that RED Dragon is just for EPIC-M and EPIC-X. Think its to do with the electronics inside. We know that it won't be available for the EPIC-S or Scarlet, so I think its 99.9999% certain its not going to happen for the RED ONE.

I wouldn't lay tooooo much store on that. EPIC-S is the 'budget' model, which means it may be built rather differently inside, and isn't upgradeable, period. And Scarlet is a different ball game of course, cheaper still and not a 35mm sensor. But the current production RED ONE is MX sensor, and so is the current EPIC, so they can't be *that* different in some ways - in terms of interfacing the imaging chip to the rest of the system, I mean.

Don't forget, 'obsolescence obsoleted'. And Jim has stated more than once that EPIC is the dogs bollocks, but RED ONE is far from obsolete and will keep making great movies for many years. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's *likely* - RED have a whole boatful of other fish to fry - but it's not too far fetched.

Mike

Is the Dragon sensor somehow different from the previously announced Monstro??? Or is it the same sensor technology is a small S35 size?

Mike, you're dreaming here. Somewhere in this forum, either Jim or RED spokespersontype said it would never happen. I could be wrong, but don't think so.

Mike, I respect your opinion. I would love to see it in the RED One's that will still be about because its just such a great camera, the first of its kind and it will still be used even in 5 years time. Its not too far fetched but I don't see it happening - sorry.

Yup, do some digging Deanan or someone clearly said Dragon will not work inside the R1 body.

EPIC-X commences shipping August 29th? You guys made a deadline you put out there! Congrats Jim and RED TEAM- Not digging on you at all
either I just think this trend will continue.. Have definitely noticed you are getting better at estimating shipping.

Time to get some wires ready... YES!

Waiting to see some spiffy behind-the-scenes shots of the first EPIC-X brains rolling out of the production line... :)
