  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X UPDATE

this would be great but i doubt it.

but a big advantage would be, when updates (like the dragon sensor) in the future can be done in london, because everyone knows, this whole custom stuff (sending in / out from europe to USA) is really a mess sometimes.
i would love to bring the cameras to london instead of filling in papers and papers of custom bureaucracy.

as europe has a huge amount of red cameras this would be a great help

Just to understand the issue, doesn't FedEx take care of all bureaucracy when the camera is importeed to EU? Whenever I've ordered stuff from Red, FedEx has taken care of all customs and VATs and then they've just sent me an invoice afterwards. So, I would guess if it goes through Red UK that will imply an additional handling cost by Red UK. But, of course, if one has to take care of the import duties etc by onself, then it becomes easily a mess and Red UK sounds like a good alternative.

yes, the logistic companies handle all this, but when you sent back products to red, usa, you have to be very careful that all is complete with the papers, that you do not pay again custom after repair or upgrade service.
i remember my first send back (my first red zoom had an issue) and the custom in USA did not clear the shipping for 2-3 weeks, because they said there are some papers missing (after 2 weeks and lots of calls to fedex it worked) ...

so, to make it short, a shipping within europe is clearly more friendly for us.

Sorry, we're a bit out of topic but importing products via Fedex in Europe was never a problem but for a year now Fedex doesn't want to deal with temporary export to the US so sending your camera back will sometimes result in paying twice the taxes.

FedEx are a nightmare to deal with. i would much rather walk into Red Europe and pick up my camera.

Hi,

I would love to get my STAGE 2 and STAGE 3 EPIC here in India.......It gives me nightmares when I think of going through the customs paper work etc as I had to face when I send my RED for MX upgrade.....

I see what you mean now. The problem in sending something out temporarily is that the officers often do not know how to such situation should be dealt with. But still, it does work out. I've sent couple times something to US for maintenance and then got it back without any duties. One needs definitely a Proforma invoice which clearly states the equipment goes to maintenance and will be returned back. But moreoever, there was some pitfalls in the forms that need to filled.

Sounds like these instructions should be worked out in detail and made sticky to the forum.

absolutely... we will also be selling just Brain+Mount Epic-M's beginning next week outside the normal M package.

Very interesting.... decisions, decisions. Will Redmote, DSMC Sidehandle and the Touchscreen also be available a la carté then?

My original import and the subsequent export back for the MX upgrade went flawlessly. But you do have to pay attention to Red's instructions and all the right paperwork. Having said that, I have a feeling we might be getting EU deliveries from London.

How about the Still Photography Feature and the Time-Exposure Abilities? Are these features still planned with Epic-X and if so will they be functional with the latest firmware release on Epix-X?

Will the much discussed Pro I/O upgrade be available in these early batches?

Edit: I just noticed the I/0 module is no longer included in Stage 2 (a fair trade off for the Ti mount and side SSD), but the question stands: What is the prognosis for I/0 modules of any flavor? Was the standard I/O discontinued in favor of the Pro?

Very much not an EPIC customer and very, very happy that you're done - fantastic!

I'm patiently paying attention while waiting for more scarlet updates and very, very interested to know what all you (lucky bastards!) new EPIC owners will bring to the screens of the world the coming months.

Will you be at IBC with a few EPICs and other nice things?

For the MX upgrade we followed Red's instructions and Fedex' ones as well.
On its way back, our Red One MX stayed in the customs for 12 days... we didn't have to pay the import duties because we spent a long time negotiating but we had to pay TVA twice and even if with French system you can get your taxes back it's such a pain in the #*s to talk during hours in phone with people who don't understand anything... just because at that time, Fedex decided not to deal anymore with temporary export...
Anyway, end of the off topic... let's get back in the Epic-X story!

Seconded.

Then don't trade her in. Keep her as a collectible that you will never forget. I wish I had kept my 1st car. I spent 15 years looking for her and wishing I had never sold her.

Just saying'.

Jim

Wise. Thank you, Jim. I know it may seem weird, but as excited as I am about Epic for today, it feels like I'm cheating on her if I ditch #2464. My wife also put it in exactly those words last night, and a guy who doesn't listen to his wife is a fool.

And yes, to all the guys who will say "you should have gone stage two!"- I do wish I'd had the money to be stage two, but the commercials I've been directing hadn't allowed that. I'm still coming up :-).

using a CARNET ATA along with the Camera Body eliminate the customs and secondary tax payments. Works in most countries.
Receiving gear from the US directly onto EUROs ground is pretty cool. No transport "via" London needed.
