  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X STAGE 3 and 3.5 Now Begins...

Jarred, deep breathe!

Someone should tell this guy - Don't stare a gift horse in the ....

I think my post isn't wrong... there's a big difference between a M and a MX body. And towards owners that upgraded their sensor is wrong to value their camera the same price of a 4 years old Mysterium body... I do think RED is a company that (like ALL companies in the world) looks at profit). And it's normal! So, if they give us the chance to trade-in our "old" R1 means they have interest in having back all those bodies.
John, it's not a "inch & ell" problem...
So, I can accept they don't want the accessories (it could be very complicated to test all that stuff), but I can't accept the same value for the two sensor.

o boy.. don't even know where to begin with this one.

We are very grateful for the generosity of RED and the Stage 3 offer. Unheard of never before for any company anywhere to do what you are doing, thank you for this...it is appreciated by many...

Well in that case, don't trade in?

I don't think it matters...yes you spent 5K to upgrade but your now getting EPIC at the price of the original R1 and then some, there are kits to help put your old R1 parts back into use from third parties...

I must be blind but even with the 5K and trading in for the old R1 price...
It's still a pretty damn awesome deal,I haven't seen it matched by any other company
Take it as your sensor being devalued over the course of the time youve had it

Or don't...

I genuinely think though that if it's that big of a deal then don't trade in and keep using the R1 till it dies, then buy the next best thing...
Stick up for what you believe in right?

As for me, I believe one less trade in means one more step forward in queue to getting the best value camera deal ever...
Then upgrading to Dragon? Hell I'm down with all of this! Ordered a few third party options to let my Scarlet re use the old R1 parts too

Michele, your compatriots are rioting in the streets over things they can't accept. I suppose it's infectious. Why don't you draw up a business plan and post it here for all to see, show us in Black and White why RED should do as you request. Why don't you just keep your R1 if you don't, "like the terms of the deal". You got a gift, you want more.

You are 100% wrong when you say ....
if they give us the chance to trade-in our "old" R1 means they have interest in having back all those bodies.
RED is taking these trade-ins just to honour their motto that "obsolescence is obsolete" .... they upgraded your R1 to MX, there is no reason for you to trade it in. Go outside and shoot a movie about entitlements.

Okay one more time: What RED has done is this:

You bought a Toyota Tercel for $20,000 5 years ago. You have put 100,000 miles on it. Now you want a Lexus for $60,000 and the dealer is going to give you $20,000 trade in on your Tercel. Maybe you added fancy rims and tires. Okay Toyota isn't going to add that to your full trade in.
No company ever has done something like this. Not Toyota, not Arri, not Sony, not even Apple.

So Michele, if you don't see this clearly please PM me and I will gladly take the time to explain it.

Sure, there are going to be some extra R1 kit pieces out there without a home, but getting the full trade-in value of the original R1 body is admittedly pretty amazing...

And being able to get $$ credit towards new SSD media with a Red Drive trade in...

And (I'm not 100% positive about this), but didn't RED at some point offer an additional credit of $1250 USD to Stage 1 and Stage 2 takers if their R1 Sensor had been upgraded to MX??

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion of the deal, but IMHO, that's a boatload of trade in value right there...

George, please, don't speak about things you don't know... The italian are NOT rioting in the streets... The italian ARE the Italy problem...
Anyway, let's talk about cameras and filmaking...

I told my opinion. ALL you aren't agree. Period.

Exactly.

Sorry I don't mean to interrupt this discussion but has anyone seen my Epic? My Canon mount will be shipping any day now and still no Epic.

You're speculating, and sounding off like you know. I highly doubt that Jim and company are collecting thousands of R1 bodies to build a giant metal sculpture........

I think the consensus thinking is that George is right. Red may have figured out a use for the cameras since they made the original offer, but when the offer was made it was pretty clear that it was being done to compensate for the R-1 no longer being a product that wouldn't become obsolete due to Red's decision to go modular... i.e., Epic.

Why else would Red pay $17,500 for a camera that they can manufacture new for only a percentage of that cost?

Be thankful instead of rude.
