  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X at IBC...

A definition for sarcasm from Merriam-Webster:

1 : a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain

On the net or not wield it carefully.

Steve

I've always found sarcasm to get lost over the net...

New picture tomorrow?!
:wink5: :aureola:

heh...didn't mean the new picture thing as a sarcasm remark...just never knew there was a RED Sight photo!

I think everything should be put into crucial ordnance thread and discussed here...or somewhere...be nice and easier to see all the modules etc. in one place...just a thought though :)

@ Imran: The post wasn't directed at you at all. It was just info about sarcasm in general.

What I really want is for Jarred to make more vids!

Steve

ware have you been?

ware have you been?

Hello Jim.
I looked for RED EPIK-X demonstration all over IBC, ware have RED been?
Jarred and I will be at IBC to show the latest EPIC-X prototype. While the proto we show is not a fully functioning unit (still need ASIC to come off the presses and work), we will be showing other stuff that does work. I think that anyone that finds us in Amsterdam will be blown away with "the stuff in the case" we have with us. The proto is the final one. It is representative of what we will be shipping. We are very proud of where we are and what the future looks like. There is not anything ever produced that will do what this camera will do, let alone in the package we will show.

The modularity of our program is just one of the things that we think will change the industry. You won't have to buy a new camera every time we improve one aspect of the system.

RED was started to revolutionize how this industry works. EPIC-X is the penultimate example of what we started out to accomplish.

At the stand for Scratch(I think thats right...)

And at the Theatre on saturday...

@ Steve: Oh right sorry, thought you were referring to the last statement about pictures!

+1 for vids

and for crucial ordnance thread with the vids :)

Just great. I've also seen the other movie (EVF8.mov) but for this one I was in the impression it was a computer rendering. But it NOT. It's just great.
Thanks for making this them.

Perhaps someone from RED can post a photo of the set. How the movie was made... :-)

Thanks again...

Here is a top down view of Epic vs. R1 to answer some of your sizing questions.. on the Epic there is a Redmote attached that obviously can be removed.

Wow, that is small. Great shot and perspective, like Jared just said. Can't wait to hear when this is going to ship. :-)

Wow.

It'd be an amazing enough accomplishment to just shrink the Red One into that sized packaged, but to actually be dramatically increasing the capabilities of the camera while downsizing like that is pretty much mind-blowing.

Yeah definitely puts things in perspective.

Just so you know.. the Epic setup in the photo has everything you need to shoot minus the power ( just like the RED ONE ) so its almost an apples to apples comparison..

It has EVF/LCD output plus CF recording via the side CF module, HD-SDI out, HDMI out, 2 channels of Balanced Mic Audio in + 48v Phantom power, Headphone out, Power in, RS-242, Genlock/GPIO, all on the Brain itself.

If you need more I/O or full sized ports, you of course go out to the modules.

But I thought (in regards to weight) it was said earlier that Epic+5 hours of batteries = Red one body

Hey Raul.. Pricing will be released before we start shipping. Heh heh heh.

Wow, that is small! The Scarlet will be even a bit smaller, right?

In the future cameras will be like a rear lens-cap...

Jarred,

I assume that the brains don't include a lens mount because it says brain only on RED.com, but I don't think I've even seen a render of a brain without a mount on it.

So...will the brains come with a lens mount? If that information hasn't been released yet thats cool, I was just curious. And if it has and I just missed it let me know.

That will fit perfect in to the new high stabilized aerial gyro system that we are currently test flying.

Is audio a mini-xlr or just a 1/8" deal?

Yeah definitely puts things in perspective.

This is gonna be such a joy to shoot with if that's all you need... A cinema camera in my backpack...be a bag of fun when I head back for the islands hehe!
