  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic V5.1.23 & V5.1.14 - No menu on displays

Menus have not been removed for HDMI and SDI in 5.1.x.

Older releases had three modes: Clean, Overlay, and Menus
This has been reduced to two modes in 5.1.x: Clean and Overlay along with a "Auto Hide Menus" option.

They can roughly be mapped like this:
OLD -> NEW
Clean -> Clean
Overlay -> Overlay and "Auto Hide Menus" ON
Menus -> Overlay and "Auto Hide Menus" OFF

The new "Auto Hide Menus" option has the added benefit that you can bring up the menus when you need them (either pressing on the touch LCD or using the MENU button on the side handle or REDMOTE) and have them disappear when you don't need them (leaving more vertical space for the video image).

By default the HDMI is now in Overlay Mode with "Auto hide Menus" enabled. This means you can now access the menu on HDMI straight out of the box by pressing the MENU button on the side handle or REDMOTE (something you needed a REDMOTE or special preset file to do before).

The "Auto Hide Menus" is one of my favorite new features as the video image is considerably larger when menus are hidden. Now my 7" monitor actually displays like a 7" monitor!!!

... And even better on the EVF where you get full UI control AND maximize the display area.

Yes that feature alone is worth upgrading to 5.x !

Only suggestion would be to add an option in the display menu system to keep the RECORD indicator (RED dot) when the menus are hidden.

It is a bit scary not being able to confirm camera is recording while having the eye in the EVF. So I end up pressing the button just to verify I'm still recording. Before with strong fan noise we always knew when camera was recording or not but with adaptive fan mode it is hard to tell sometimes :-)

The overlays (including the record indicator) are still shown when the menus are hidden. Just the top and bottom bar are hidden to allow more room for video.

Cool, I'll give this a try and check it out. It sounds good.
I don't have the Red LCD so rely on SDI and HDMI outputs and need to see the menu.

Do you know if this build fixes the Redmote crashing when it looses signal? Currently I have to restart the Redmote after it looses signal with the Epic on a multicopter.

OK, cool. Been shooting with release firmware and several other cameras recently so I must have messed up things in my mind ! Sorry for writing wrong info !
The new auto-hide and super customizable overlays are great, thanks for this !

Anyone else having the issue of the Redmote crashing and needing shard restart once it losses wireless connection with the camera?
