  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A friend of mine and I captured at 300 fps. The background (the sky) made it possible to Twixtor with minimal motion artifacts. I was pretty pleased with how well the footage held up to it!

Shot on Epic with Zeiss Super Speeds all on sticks.

Any and all constructive criticisms are welcomed.

I second that. That has to be the cleanest twixtor vid to date. Makes me wish I had an EPIC.

This looks great, and its another validation of how good 2K can look. We certainly plan on shooting 60fps on our Scarlets and slowing that down even further, so this gives me a lot of hope.

Question, how different do you think would have looked if you'd shot everything 5K 120fps, and then twixtored everything to 300fps or 1000fps, as needed?

only one way to find out...

i think they made the right move though... more original frames is better - if you shoot it clean and have enough detail... should be good. especially since they had some easy alpha mattes to give it.

was this sky replacement or are those the original plates?

Other than Twixtor and light color correction in After Effects, there was no manipulation. We actually showed up with no idea what to shoot, and our friends (stunt coordinators/stunt men) set up a trampoline in a parking lot behind their gym for 30 minutes. I rolled a couple shots and the director cut this together. I was a little disappointed in our loss of color detail in the sky, but I believe I was partially to blame.

I was thinking about that after I saw the final product. I agree with Paul though. When exporting to Vimeo, I don't think the "extra K's" would have done me a whole lot of perceivable good. :)

+1 Really interested to see how Twixtor handles particles (water, dust, flames, etc.) in Epic footage. That's always been the achilles heel in lower res, lower framerate footage I have seen.

I shot some footage of some welders and grinders for a car ad on Epic and Red One MX. As long as the shapes in motion are fairly organic without rigid lines, Twixtor does a fine job with it.

Thanks for the kind words you guys!

Sort of blown away right now...

I did the Twixtor for this video. Portions of it are at an effective 10,000fps. The footage twixtored very well due to the high contrast background, high resolution, and high source framerate. We've done additional tests with stunt men on fire, and while we haven't pushed it to 10,000 fps, we have gotten excellent results at 600fps and I see no reason why 1200 wouldn't be doable.
