  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC STAGE Clarification and update

To some degree, even the M is uncertain if one factors in the candidacy. It's a short, handpicked list. Stages 2 and 3 felt organized and civil based up past purchase history or serial structure. The M stage was definitely a wild card (great for a small few or unsettling, disturbing for others). Certainly hope the rollout of the Monstro sensor is sexier when that time comes.

Curious how long it takes from being approved, to sending in money, to actually receiving an M?

edit: never mind... just backtracked and saw Jeff Kilgroe's post.

My M shipped the day after RED received my $$$, and it showed up today!

I think the M's are subject to parts availability and various dynamic factors as well. I think that right after NAB, there was a huge approval group from the new list and it took RED a while to work through it. Just a theory, but it took 34 days from wire transfer to FedEx delivery for me...

I'm still not sure, even now, that the true calculation is: buy M now or wait 2 months. That is a best-case scenario. What if the real calculation is: buy M now or wait 6 months?

And that's pretty much it. M is worth it if you can recover your investment. Sure, it's a gamble as to how long you will have the M ahead of X and there's no way to know that -- could be 2 months, might be 6 or more. I hope it doesn't take that long!

I'm in the camp of people who is able to purchase an M now, but has better uses for the money if my Stage 2 Epic-X will ship soon anyway. At this point, I'm still planning on buying the M, but I'm definitely on the fence. When I got on the list in April? No question, I would have bought an Epic-M then for sure. Now, not so much, and not just because the Epic-X is closer, but because for the extra cost of the Epic-M, I could purchase another camera (Sony F3 with S-Log) to tide me over unit the Epic-X ships. Then I'd have *two* cameras, an A and B camera.

Actually, I'm glad I wrote this post. With the Epic-X potentially shipping so soon, it's probably *not* a good time for me to purchase an Epic-M, not when I can pickup a B camera for the same money. Cool.

Thats pretty much the way it works for the M program.. Like I said... our assembly team has become a force to be reckoned with :)

i hope somebody is getting a timelapse of that...

I too would love to see pictures of the assembly line running when it fires up late August. I can't think of a single product I've anticipated more than this. :)

What stage is currently active for registration? Is it still possible to get in on stage 3 or has registration for 3 closed?

Bob
Stage 3 has not even opened yet, only after stage 2 has completed...but your RED One must have been bought before a certain date to qualify.

You are looking at stage 4 Bob.

OK, there is a lot of confusion on this (as Antonio's post shows). As this is the "Clarification and Update" thread could you update the lead post to reflect the current status?

If I understand it right, Stages 1-3.5 are closed, and the accessories list that comes with the packages needs to be updated (CF module, base I/O module).

Thanks,

Bob

But I don't have to register for stage 4 right? At least that is what my bomb squad rep said.
So how will that work after stage 3.5? Do we who own a RED ONE get a mail saying that we now can order an EPIC-X?

Jarred, not meaning to be flip or anything, but why aren't the Epic Xs rolling out faster? With the practice you've had I would think the X program would be an easy switchover.

They are manufacturing a high end digital cinema camera not a monkey wrench, cut them some slack.
I don't want mine rushed out the door.

Ha ha I knew it was only a matter of time after we started shipping and the celebrations were over until someone came out and busted our balls for not doing things quick enough :)

They've been shippinng M cameras at a pretty high rate. You have one of those. Was it defective? I calculate they must have made and shipped 5 or 6 a day at their peak... maybe more. Why is the Epic X so much more complicated?
