  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I turned the Epic on today and it said Firmware updated successfully and to power down. I didn't have an SSD installed and haven't updated it for a month or so. Anyone had that happen before?

First time I put the PL Mount on. Does that sound like the culprit?

Awesome. Thanks. Now I feel less paranoid haha.

Since you may know Mikael, I just got bought some used SSD's and am wondering if they require any kind of firmware update? And if so will the camera just do it like it did for the PL mount?

Only the 512 GB 'turbo' (red colored REDMags 1.8) might require an update to their firmware. Never seen the camera update the other ones.
Reformatting them on camera after a FW upgrade is a good practice tho and might be required for some 'major' updates...

512 turbo FW update is here

Yes, I would like to suggest RED changes the update description to tell you what specifically is being upgraded (similar to the on-camera REDmote update).

When prepping ACs see this, and don't realize what it is, they get confused and nervous. These are the little things that go a long way with ACs.

Thanks for the info Mikael.

And that's a great idea Casey. People already spread enough unfounded RED rumours. Don't need to add any more to their imaginary problems!

The camera needs to install the firmware for it, since it's a piece with it's own set of hardware electronically connected to the camera. Nothing to worry about. Will happen every time you connect something the camera hasn't seen before.
