  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-S (old Scarlet S35) update...

My Core2 duo MBP handles R1 MX Files just fine. A quad i7 with faster graphics, and Thunderbolt hooked up to a nice little portable raid will kick ass.

Agreed, the new macs with thunderbolt will be what we need for the complete field package.

Jim any plan to adopt Thunderbolt to red station?

I had gone to a 13 inch a few months ago, something tells me I better get at least a 15 for R3D files.

How much RAM do you have on that?

supported is 2x4gb max. some say it will run with 2x8gb, does anyone know if its save to try?

Well I already bought the new MBP 17". I opted for the 8GB of ram and the processor upgrade. Here's hoping it will handle the R3Ds. I'm sure it will be just fine.

Hi guys,

Ted was down in Jakarta last weekend to demo both Epic and Scarlet. Here's some pics from the event.

If this is a preview of what's to come, then can't wait for it to arrive. Not to mention the NAB surprise :D

Jim, Ted, and RED team, outstanding work! See you all in April :)

If any of you ever want the challenge of your life... build an electronic camera. And make sure it has better specs than anything ever on the market. Then put it in a box smaller than anyone deems sane.

Jim

Thanks so much for this really informative thread Jim and it was a pleasure meeting you and seeing your operation at the Santa Fe 3d Workshop this past December. It seems this is a better choice for me than the Scarlet fixed or otherwise.

Having recently built a super computer (for CS5) to solve the post issues first while waiting on the Scarlet, I can only wonder if the heat issues in the better chassis with reduced frame rates will work in the unit's favor as far as durability is concerned. Combine that with the favorable price point and better market fit and I can only say, GODSPEED!

I joined these forums in June of 2007 after discovering a random comment in DVXUser forums. I followed for a few months before actually joining because I never really thought I could afford the dream of owning a Red and felt I would be torturing myself. I've had a picture of a Red Camera on my refrigerator for the last 4 years as one of my life's top goals. I've sat out of the DSLR threat knowing that what Red is doing with Scarlet/Epic S will blow it away. It truly feels like I "need" this wonderful and magical piece of technology or my life will cease to exist. I'm not joking when I say that my life will instantly be better with this camera. Please Jim, please Red Team..., make an announcement, make plenty of units and let me know which organ I must sacrifice. Oh God please bless the Red Team so they may deliver us all...

End of impatient rant. Sorry guys, gotta do that every now and then so I stay sane.

i dont think anybody in here is sane!!! i find that all geniuses are insane for them to do what the do best!! my favorite insane people of all times! the guy who created E=MC2
Steve Jobs and Jim jannard!!! LOL

But your skills wont be..... go and buy a $400 GH1 or T2i and start shooting while you wait...

If you are already out there shooting, then fair enough... but don't get crazy over a spec sheet... we are all here because we want a RED camera, but don't sit here obsessing. Shoot, write, learn ..... when you see a "buy now" button, sell your cheap gear (or keep as B cam) and get your dream camera.

I get this. I am not a working professional so I have no need to know how other cameras work. As a RED owner shooting my own material, I want to pinpoint my focus on how to make the best images with RED Digital Cinema Cameras. No other imaging device interests me... not even a scanner.

This is the last camera company I will ever need.

can we see Epic-S at NAB?

I think you've seen it when you saw EPIC-M. I guess they look the same, just have a bit different electronics. So you will only see the difference when you shoot with it or if they tell you "this is an EPIC-S". And in any case, if they bring one, they won't tell you now. It will be one of their "SURPRISES"!:coolgleamA:

Im a bit lost and dont know if this is common knowledge or not. But is this epic-s still 2/3" or is it the same sensor as the epic but just different computer power or something?
