  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC Reservations Begin...

Fairly soon we will list all of the available trade-in and upgrade options for RED ONE owners. Then we will ask for a decision. This program will not open-ended forever.

Has this been posted? And if not, will it happen before next week's cut-off date for stage 2? Getting awfully short to make a decision...

Curious about this as well.

Hi Michael, yeah something like that. I no longer have the email address that I first purchased my RED One with, I asked RED to change that but it never happened or just half or so. Then I tried to change it on the RED website but it's all quite confusing.

Yeah, similar issue here. Our camera is tied to a guy who no longer works for the company but we can't get his name off the records. Email address seems to have been sorted but I sometimes wonder how many Red missives go off into the ether addressed to a guy long gone.

Now it's sort of half tied to him, half tied to me. I wonder what happens if I leave the company - do I get to take the cameras with me? (I wish!) Would have thought it simple enough to tie a camera to a company instead of an individual but there ya go...

any questions about your account or process beep Brent/Kelly or your RED Rep.. they will help sort you out.

Any ownership questions, feel free to contact me: kelly - at - red - dot - com. If you have a new email address, we can update your account, that is no problem. As for the account holder leaving the company (when the camera is owned by the company, not the individual), we can sort that out too... all you have to do is ask :-)

nice photo Kelly...

I too would like to see all of my options before the May 1st cut off date.

There is one change in current policy in re: Stage 2 and Stage 3 that I would really like to see, and it would be a change that would not be detrimental to current Stage 2 adopters and would really help those on the fence at present who are trying to sell their current R-1s as "executed" in a buyers market, so they are sure they can afford a Stage 2 Epic X. This rush to Epic is devaluing a perfectly outstanding camera and those who do not move up to Epic are suffering disservice because of this clamor for cash.

So, if policy were changed so that anyone who couldn't come up with the cash in time to execute Stage 2, they could just leave their $5,000 on deposit and roll over to Stage 3 where they could then trade in their R-1 for Stage 3 or request their deposit back and just upgrade their sensor or even do nothing and shoot with the original M sensor R-1.

Anyone who would forgo the Stage 2 camera deal and roll-over to Stage 3 would of course fall back to their place in the Stage 3 queue.

RED would still have a fair idea of number of cameras to build because most who would plop down $5000 would probably be serious about either a Stage 2 or Stage 3 Epic X.

Just doin' my Brenda Lee impersonation and wishin' and hopin'.

Just a quick reminder, if you are going through the stage 2 ordering process online and do NOT get a confirmation page with a 7 or 9 digit confirmation number, YOU ARE NOT DONE. You should also get an online order confirmation email with that same confirmation number. With May 1 approaching soon, I would hate for some of you guys to think you completed the order process - and never did. Make sure you get that confirmation number!

BC

PS - Yes, you have until June 1 to pay the deposit amount. If you want to pay during the online order, pay via credit card. If you want to pay between now and June 1, select wire transfer. If you want to pay by credit card later, no problem - just contact your BOMB SQUAD rep for a credit card authorization form.

Brent, just to be absolutely clear, I did get an email with a nine digit Order #. Is that the same as a Confirmation Number?

Will Zeiss Super Speed lenses cover the 5k Epic sensor?

Will Zeiss Super Speed lenses cover the 5k Epic sensor?

We are now taking orders for Stage 2 of the EPIC program.

Okay, I need some information to make a decision to pull this trigger. Of course I tried Reduser.net's magnificent search engine but couldn't find anything. Tried to find a "new thread" button, but either I don't have that or it's hidden somewhere. Tried wading through the Black Hole of Red Data aka Reduser.net and...nada. (close though)

Tried calling a few people and found more people in the same dilemma - they have Zeiss Super Speeds and can't find a definitive answer to the question - Will Zeiss Super Speed lenses cover the 5k Epic sensor?

So, hours later - I've tried conventional procedure now I just need to know the answer. A definitive answer.

From what I gather - and I need to know (definitively) if this is true - it will cover the 5k recorded image, but not go quite to end of the full safety margin outside the recorded image. Not a disaster by any means, but I really, really want to know.

You know what would be great? A graph that shows a variety of lenses and what cameras and sensors they will work with. (And how much an image, say, RPP and other lenses will cover the Epic 6k? Understand people often have more money in glass than cameras.

I know someone has worked with the Tatoo and Super Speeds. Can someone at RED give them a call? Or allow them to post?

Many of the PL mount lenses that now cover the 4K Red sensor may not completely cover the 5K sensor in 16:9. That is my understanding. But consider that the camera will have many different crop modes including 4.5K and 4K which almost all PL mount lenses will cover.

It seems like the Epic has many many advantages over Red One, shooting 5K being just one. I can't imagine coverage area really factoring into your decision, since there aren't really any other 4.5K cameras available either.

Also you may find that longer lenses have larger coverage areas within the same set of primes than wider lenses. Since a full frame sensor has a wider field of view in relation to various focal lengths, you may not need your widest lenses when using a set with a larger sensor.

what are the guestimated epic-x reservations at?
not asking officially.. just some of the guys here.. what do you think will happen?

a blow up of orders like the red one?
or something a little more mellow.. )with the economy being shitty, and a shitstorm of canon 5/7ds showing up on commercials)

Well, here's the dileama - get the new sensor for my RED 1 (I have #24 and #24) vs trading one or both up to the Epic 5k). If I can only get 4.5k out of the new Epic. And I think I get 4.5k out of the RED 1 upgrade (hard to find this information). then the expense of the upgrade isn't worth it. However, get a little extra res, and my wide angle lenses are a little wider (always like that!) and with the smaller form factor of the Epic 5k - then it make sense. But I can't find a definitive answer. I'm sure someone out there in the Tatoo program can answer it.

That is - IF it will cover it. Will it cover in the 2:1 mode? And not 16:9? Don't know.

May...maybe...I know you're being helpful, but I really need to hear something concrete to make this decision. Jim? Jarred? Help! I only have a couple days to make this decision!
