  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC... ready.

It's odd everyone seems to think they are going to be so slow with production. They are a much more mature company compared to when they released the RedOne. they know how many stage 2's they need to deliver. Not to mention, Jim knows a thing or two about mass production, he did create Oakley. I have a feeling we will all be pleasantly surprised at their level of production.

Right Brian. With RedOne, there was only limited team. Now it's a huge team and they have been experimenting with Epic for last one year or so. I believe it will be at least 500 Epics coming out every month.

I can see RED keeping up with EPIC demand.

Scarlet S35 on the other hand...

Almost 100,000 views. I guess EPIC matters... nice for our team to know. It makes all the 18 hour days matter. Thanks. I'll tell them.

Jim

For me, scarlet and then whatever Underwater Housing I can afford.
This is going to revolutionize my underwater photography and video, but I still need to save rather a lot of money.

Been waiting patiently for this day (since the DVXuser days)

Yes...but come on sunglasses and cameras are apples and oranges.
Sunglasses have 2 identical hinges and that's the mechanism. Jannard
has posted here about cameras and 18,000 parts and the most
complex ASIC ever designed. Wouldn't surprise me much if there
were problems getting parts and assemblage going. Time will tell
though..they will be here when they are ready and they're worth the wait.

I agree partially that's why I said "not to mention" and stated other reasons before that as to why I believe production will be on a larger scale than alot of us think. However, even though sunglasses are much simpler, Jim's knowledge when it comes to mass production is still very useful and many aspects can transfer to camera manufacturing like how it seems like they will use JIT inventory and other such techniques.

From Adam Wilt's reported tour of Red Studios, they have likely already worked most of these issues out. They have something like 13 completed Tatoo production prototypes. All the hardware has been proven and cleared for production and they have a test production line already set up at Red Studios to work out any issues.

And it's not like Jim and RED haven't ever produced and shipped a product, before.

The RED ONE did come out, right?

Congratulations Jim and RED team. This news is truly amazing!! You have given some hard times for the rest of the companies. It's a great feeling to be part of this FAMILY. Well, not yet but soon. :-)

1. When the Stage 2 Epic-X comes out, will we be able to open the motion footage in Adobe Premiere and the stills in Photoshop?

Or will we need to use RedCine-X to start with?

2. What will be the max resolution/framerate possible with our existing Red RAID drives?

Thanks,
Antony

Congratulations on your triumph!

Congratulations on your triumph!

Mr. Jannard, I just wanted to express my appreciation for your vision and also for your dedication to achieving it. What you and your Red team has accomplished is truly a triumph on many levels. You have done more than just produce a new type of camera, you have done something so much more valuable than that. You have leapfrogged an entire industry and have also injected some much needed competition into once stagnant pro and pro-sumer video and cinema camera development. I'm fairly certain that many of the features we enjoy today or soon hope to have on Panasonic, Cannon, and Sony cameras would mostly be vaporware, to be dripped out at a frustratingly slow pace if ever. Red and Epic have rebalanced the scales in my (the consumers) favor. I honestly think that you and Red/Epic are comparable to George Lucas and Edit-Droid. Edit-Droid has spawned the Avid and FCP, and put professional level tools within the reach of us mere mortals. Epic, Red and Scarlett with do the same. You personally have also become a sort of role model for me as I have worked to start my own financial software company. When I read your posts every so often, the enthusiasm you have for what you are doing and the obvious fun you are having serves to push me a little bit harder, even when I experience a setback in some form or another. I think back to some of your first posts on the DVX user boards and am amazed at how much you have accomplished in the intervening years, and I want to do the same with my company as well. America needs more business leaders like you and more companies like Red. Ultimately the best complement I can ever give you will be when I order my own Epic camera and lenses in the very near future. Thanks again. - Tom

We remember when man walked on the moon, we remember life before cell phones, our kids will be able to say -they remember life before everything was shot RAW! We used to say this is a Kodak Moment! I'm not sure if this has the same ring to it - This IS a RAW Moment!! Anyway - Jim and RED - Rock and Roll !!!

or a hdrx moment!

I look forward to trading in my Red One for the Epic, and having the freedom to shoot with a lighter camera. It means I won't have to get rid of by stabiliser because it can't handle the weight of the Red.....AND...I can stop using the 7D!!! Bring it on Jim! BRING IT ON!!
