  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC... ready.

Agreed!

truly awesome, spectacular, outrageous - sexy like hell!

I am so thankful THIS MIRACLE happens during my lifetime ...
and not sometime around 2101 ... lol

:-)

That is what I was thinking! I am so glad that I am youngish now, rather than 30 years ago!

You would need a FD to EOS converter just like on a still camera. Red won't be supplying a FD mount for Epic

That's true for the ef mount. But depending on the distance from the face to the sensor it may be possible to make a simple, inexpensive FD (dumb) mount. The big difficulty on the R1 was the FFD adjuster, which was so long that it was harder to make other mounts and virtually impossible for the 44mm of the EF and FD mounts without removing the entire adjuster, which created other issues.

The Epic has an adjustable sensor instead, and the electrical contacts are flat (for mating with "pogo" pins) so no cable to worry about, so it is very likely that dumb mounts will be pretty easy to make.

WooHooo
just waiting...
congrats JIm and team!!

exciting times;)

RED Team, you are incredible great but you know that. The Fedex guy brought me the package with my RED 222 exactly on January 12 2008. So, the chance to have an EPIC for my 53th birthday is not bad;-) But I can wait: my beloved RED MX is such a great camera and I had NEVER a problem with it. Well, I let touch here body from nobody else except me and my assistents. She likes that ;-))

Almost 100,000 views. I guess EPIC matters... nice for our team to know. It makes all the 18 hour days matter. Thanks. I'll tell them.

Jim, Many of them like me are non RED owners. Ready to buy atleast 2 cameras sure.

The second main question after Wnen is How many? How many Epics can be produced in the first year? 500-1000? More? Because it is very importnent how many people can buy it!

More than matters, it will change even more lives than the Red One, which is saying something!

Thank you Jim

I will say that your commitment and credibility is very assuring and comforting. (and very rare in an industry that places profit as it's vanguard)
The passion that you bring to this industry places you miles above anything that your competitors can ever achieve because there is no one there with such vision.

This effort of yours has permanently changed the face of the moving image and will be felt by many generations of filmmakers and more importantly the many millions of people who will be treated to so many more stories and fantastic vistas than before you came and shifted the paradigm.

I thank you sir.

(scroll halfway down) enjoy

(i am in line for the epic x program and am indeed excited - it looks brilliant!)

Jim, earlier you mentioned something about the Red electronic lenses available when Epic would ship, will this still be through??? how many chance on that one???

I asked about this earlier in the thread. Still no answer. Maybe the Red Electronic FF35 lens mount isn't ready yet. It wasn't included in the list of lens mounts that will be available from the start.

alexey, 1000 produced epics per yea, would mean, that people with high numbers like 6000, would have to wait 6 years, and numbers like 8000 would have to wait 8 years, and as non redone owner you would wait 10 years.

so you must be kidding:yesnod:

How many Epics out the door?

Very happy with my RED One, will be even happier when my Epic arrives at the door....

Can we get a guesstimate as to how many you think you could reasonably put out the door a month???

Please.......sorry for asking, just had to try....

I'm so enjoying history in the making. Jim and the Red team are surely making our time on the stage fun and interesting. Can you imagine how different the industry would be if red never existed. Truly in their own way they have changed our world...

The first year is the most hard year for production so I am worry about RED can produce for example 2000 items maybe in the second year but RED ONE were produced I think about 8000 for 4 years! Sо I don't think RED can produce 3000-4000 items in the first year! It is really a lot!

i know what you mean alexey, but jim sayd that they have learnd alot trough redone, so epic will be, or have to be much faster deliverd then redone, nobody is willing to wait 4 years from now. in 4 years epic is todays redone, and we all have allready fullframe monstros, and waiting for the next big thing.
:biggrinjester:

They got stage 2 reservations for a reason, they wanted an estimate on how many Epics they would need to build and deliver in the first wave. I believe they will build as many as they need to, as fast as they can. People with $5K deposits are not going to wait a couple years. I wouldn't be surprised if they delivered a couple hundred a week once production ramps up.
